COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A true summer thirst quencher! This refreshing Wheat Beer is styled after the famous "wit bier" or white beer of Belgium and similar to the German "wiess biers". It is a hazy light yellow in colour, and during fermentation takes on a white appearance. Holgate White Ale is based on a special combination of wheat and barley malts, lightly hopped and loaded with a delicate combination of fresh Orange Peel and ground corriander seeds - all combining to make a refreshing and easy drinking Ale, perfect for summer conditions.

Nice one. Contender for me favourite Aussie brew. This shit is nice and yeasty and strawberries rather than banana which heaps of other wit/weiss/white beers have (as if Id know). Pity Sri Lanka didnt win the cricket that was airing as I downed it.

hints of corrianda and orange on the nose. pours cloudy straw in colour with nice fluffy head. could also taste ginger on the back palate

2 inches of head atop a beautifully pale ale, typical flavour of wheat malt, slight banana, spice, definate orange peel flavour. Mouthfeel not quite up to par, didn’t feel very robust. Nice enough though.

looked so nice and dirty dishwatery coming out of the bottle. very morish, just enough spice to keep you interested. easily the best australian wit though the competition isn’t much to speak of; I think eczematic’s fudge wit is in 2nd place

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2003 Had this one again tonight after not having it for a while. I liked it a lot better than the last time. This time i picked up a lot more spice and clove. It still had a slightly thin, spritzy body like i remember, but the flavour and balance weren't as sticky or bland as i remember. At times it tastes quite Belgian and at times it has a German wheat sort of flavour, quite good. But fails to take the next step. Re-rate: had this again recently, man, was it bad this time, stale sweaty, off-putting aroma as eczematic mentions, veru odd.

Hazy pale yellow; pungent, herbaceous nose with some appropriate phenols and plenty of spice. Very fizzy, and has too much Band-Aid in the palate, but otherwise has a good level of spice and malt.

I had to rate all these beers at once because they’re so fantastic! I love the texture and the flavour. This beer has a lot more boldness to it than the others.

Very spicy aroma & flavourwith faint citrus sourness. Very cloudy. However this was way too carbonated. I can pour almost any beer without a head if I choose to, but the head dominated the pour and affected the texture. Maybe this was a bad bottle. A middle of the road white. Too expensive to take another chance.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2003 hmm. i've never smelt a skunk, and i've never had a "skunked" beer, but I wonder if this is what people are talking about. the beer smelt seriously like acrid, stale sweat. it was so disgusting it made me want to retch as i was pulling the glass towards my lips. as far as i could discern any flavour at all past the stench, there was banana and coriander. appearance was clear yellow, not witbiery at all. i can only hope this was a dodgy bottle, but everyone seems to remark on the "pungent" or "slightly disturbing" aroma here so maybe it's just how it comes.
