COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lager, Lager, Lager! The biggest selling beer on draught at Holgate Brewhouse. Our Pilsner is a true European style lager - a light straw colour brewed with bucket loads of Czech Saaz hops. This lager is the ultimate session beer, but also offers enjoyment for the beer enthusiast with a clean malt palate and grassy/floral hop aroma and flavor. Crisp and refreshing anytime, the Holgate Pilsner matches well with seafood or rich dishes such as deep fried fish and chips or pizza. Available in bottle and draught.

Clean, crisp well maded style. Classic golden yellow with a thin head. Dull lager nose, fairly uneventful. Medium weight palate shows light malts right through but firms up with a hoppy finish, together with faint floral notes.

Bottle -- Pours a gorgeous clear golden yellow with an average, diminishing head that leaves spare lacing. The aroma is slightly fruity and hoppy. Flavour is short and moderetly bitter (could be more bitter for a pilsner). A touch oily with soft carbonation. A good beer but not a great beer.

3 Oct 05 - Light hop, low hopped and some musty aroma. Clear light yellow-gold colour, good head and good lacing. Big hoppy and light malt flavour. Hop bitter finish.

Hop malt aroma. Clear yellow colour with good head and lacing. Sweet malt hop flavour. Fizzy palate.

Though this was similar to Elmars Pilsener with the raw hops featuring in the taste, some wheat characters?. Oily, good lacing. Liked this although not bitter enough for higher rating.

UPDATED: JUL 13, 2005 Draught at AIBA, Melbourne. Hazy golden. Lightly grassy nose. Dryish and crisp with an interesting combination of deep papery malt and hard aromatic crystal malt. The hops with aren’t very noticable in the aroma sparks a pleasantly bitter finish. A good thrirst quencher!

I don’t like pilsners. I just don’t like em OK? This is probably as good as you are going to get though in Oz. I found this drinkable at the very least, but the style does not suit my palate.

UPDATED: AUG 27, 2004 Rather yellowy-green looking and rather pale. Decent head. Fruity, slightly hoppy aroma with a rather thin body but decent malt flavour and mildish bitterness. Slight astringency in finish. Not Holgate’s best work, but OK.
Rerate: Had it on tap at Mac's and it was pretty good. Less hop character than I would like but a really nice soft maltiness. Again, VERY pale.

Looked and smelt like a urine sample, yellow with just a few bubbles of head. Low bitterness and a weedy flavour.

Very interesting pils. Fruit characters uncommon in the style come through, and an excellent long, dry, finish. Almost tastes like there's something in it, but there can't be with a pilsener, right? Reinheitsgebot and all that?
