UPDATED: JAN 11, 2010 On tap at the brewery. Wonderful IPA with nice piney aroma, nice bitterness, and enough malt backbone to back it up.

Crisp clean and bitter IPA with citrus and floral flavor. Orange pour. Sticky white head. Pine needles. Had this from draft at the Hollister brew house

On tap at O’briens. Pours a slightly cloudy golden amber body topped by a thin to medium thick, off-white head with some lacing. It’s slighlty sweet and malty with a nice hoppy balance consisting of pine and grapefruit notes as well as some apricot. Medium bodied, smooth and a touch dry.

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2008 Draught at the brewpub. Dark gold color with a sticky head. Really fresh hoppy aroma with plenty of pine and grapefruit. The flavor is pretty dry and hoppy with a definite pine leaning quality. Medium body. Quite clean and drinkable. The dryness mixes with an up-front hoppiness that demands your attention. Well done. 3.7. Rerate for cask version: I*ll give this a bump for flavor, as the cask conditioning seems to harmonize everything, maybe due to the great mouthfeel that softens the hops. Maybe I*m freaking out? Anyway, I*m loving this lately.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2011 A nice hoppy delicious beer. Subtly sweet malt backbone, but the hops really shine through. Big in the aroma - grapefruit and pine - and smooth in the finish. Not a harsh bitterness at all. Golden/amber in color, nice frothy head. Re-rate in 2011 - this one really is a fantastic beer. If you can get it during happy hour for only $3, it is an absolute steal of a deal. Delicious.

Tap at Toronado 22nd Anniversary. Golden-orange with a creamy white head. Aroma is rough piney/weedy/citrusy hops and a little malt. Flavor is sweet pale/caramel malt with earth, weed, and citrusy hops. Pretty nice balance. Medium-bodied and smooth on the palate. Great IPA.

My Bottom Line:
Oranges, sand and resins are expertly balanced out by lean caramel malts in this refined and flavorful India Pale Ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A fluffy sheet of foam covers the shiny amber.
-The hop bitterness focuses on the sandy minerals and resins that also appeared in the aroma.
-The healthy body is enlightened by prickly carbonation.
-This is not the most distinctive IPA, but its high drinkability, harmonious flavour profile and flawless execution manage to make it pretty outstanding to me.

On tap at the brewpub.
