[1263-20080405] 500mL can. Alcohol grain malt aroma with generically mouldy toast yeast. Clear, dark amber brown body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Thick grainy malt flavour with sweet toasted yeast. Thick medium body. Fair, best of the trio tonight (Premium, Maibock, Festbock).

500ml Can

App.: Dark copper poor, reddish hues, thin beige foamy head.

Aromas: Plums, alcohol, caramelised malts, faint... something spice i can’t seem to put my finger on.

Palate: Sweet hits you right off the bat, alcohol, perfect carbonation for this beer, medium body, faint bitternes that is somewhat longlasting...

Flavors: Nutty.alcohol comes back again, hints of plums, malts and that SPICE i can’t put my finger on..........

Notes: strong notes of alcohol overall

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2008 This was a 500ml can. Tasted this during the first campfire of the year. Great looking beer, chocolate brown with a nice and creamy head. Aroma was malt and apples. A sweet taste as well, malt and chocolate. A little bit of hops in the finish. Not your typical German beer by any regard, but it was still very enjoyable.

Half litre can from LCBO. Dark chocolate appearance with off-white foamy head. Some spiciness and decent body but not much. Bordering on stale, skunky import. Not what I was expecting at all.

0.5l can. Pours an opaque brown with a solid frothy head. Kind of looks like a coke. Smell is pleasant, with notes of malt and hops. Palate is smooth. Taste is strong and very malty. Notes of nuts, and somewhat sweet.

(Rating #1632)

Not what I expected , I was looking forward to a crisp German lager but inside the can was brown cola colored ale. Not a very powerful ale. But I seen Holsten and German so I was disipointed to get dark beer becuase im not in the mood right now. A little bit sweet and creamy , slight amounts of chocolate perhaps. Choclate on taste and aroma. I wanted German not British

I tried this beer on January 3, 2008 after purchasing from a Toronto LCBO outlet. The beer poured a translucent dark brown colour with a thin tan coloured head. The aroma was malty with some sweet and spicy tones. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with high carbonation. The flavour was dry, malty, a bit spicy, and a little hoppy finish.
