2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Beershine (4561) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - AUG 21, 2007
Holsten Festbock is darker than I expected from the can, and has a caramel nose and body. Not much of an aftertaste. Good amount of carbonation, making it surprisingly easy on the palate. Not bad for what it is: I consider this a strong party beer.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 JesseM (918) - Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 21, 2007
UPDATED: JUL 2, 2009 500ml can. Pours a deep red, darkish brown. Small head, and it looks very carbonated. The aroma is kind of boozy, with some malts to back it up. The taste is similar, not totally horrible, again, malts and a minor alcohol bite. Sweet, almost like dark fruits, raisins, maybe some molasses, but there isn’t really enough to hide the ABV well enough.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 mullet2007 (209) - St. Johns, Newfoundland, CANADA - AUG 11, 2007
Pours a deep cherry color with nice red highlights. Head is medium to smallish and sort of a pale brown color, reasonably thick, and lasts nicely. Aroma is a little bit roasty, and maybe some alcohol? A touch of bitterness there. Carbonation is pretty low, but nice, and it’s acceptably thick. Flavor is nice and malty with a hint of caramel, raisins and roastiness. There’s also a bit of bitterness and maybe some smoke in the finish.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Cornfield (5240) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - JUL 18, 2007
This pours a deep mahogany body with a lofty, sustained tan head. Very sweet, malty aroma - caramel with a splash of milk chocolate. It tastes of lightly roasted malts, a sweetness tempered by the arrival of a mild herbal bitterness near to the finish. At 7% ABV, a dangerously sessionable beer.

Pours a dark mahogany/brown body under a large but quick fading tan head. Dry, malty aroma exudes the dark sweetness of chocolate-caramel. Mid-bodied with a lively mouth. Well-crafted, with a roasty yet sweet malted flavor leading to a coffee bitterness... then finishing as a bittersweet union of the twain. Very good, especially from a canned product which usually gets a bum rap.
