This has been one of my favorite strong beers for awhile but I have never rated it. Pours a nice dark red with good head that disapears shortly after. Very rich strong taste, lots of flavour. This is one of my favorite beers.

Dark, strong beer, sweet and full. Good as an occasional beer with a suitable food. I keep getting it. Quite a nice beer from a foreign macrobrewery. A quality beer to enjoy as a cheap drink.

it has a slightly harsh but very flavourful nose that smells like burnt malt and sweetness. its appearance is actually very nice being very dark with a large brown head. it tastes like burnt grains, is pretty sweet and some unusual nut flavours. this beer is a high class style attempted on a budget and in its price/alcohol range it is alot better than boring pale lagers or malt liquors. the flavour of this is a bit harsh but at least one of the most interesting in the cheap beer category.

Surprenant!, cette biere est tres foncée. Cependant elle sent pas grand chose. Coté gout, le petit coté Allemand se fait gouter avec une minime touche caramelisé, le tout sur un léger arriere gout d’ alchol dont on a pas besoin.

UPDATED: SEP 20, 2007 500 mL can. Deep reddish brown with thick beige head that dissipates quickly. Medium strong aroma of grasses and a bit of caramel and tin. Flavour of alcohol, dark chocolate. Finishes bitter. Not so thick. Really not bad.

500 ml can. pours dark brown with almost no head. white bubbles lace the glass as you drink. aromas of dark fruit and sweet malts. flavours are similar but lack any kind of finish. very watery finish for a 7% beer. the holsten maibok is better then this one.

Very nice looking beer with a little bit of a redish colorto it. Very sweet taste that stayed with you long after the beer was gone.

500 ml can from LCBO. Ruby-brown colour with a wispy tan head. Aroma is slightly roasty with a bitter background. Sweet caramel-malt flavour with some dark fruitiness and a good finish. Body is a little thin, but it’s otherwise pretty decent and would make a good dark session beer. Can’t believe it’s taken me so long to try this one!

App.: Dark copper poor, reddish hues, thin beige foamy head.

Aromas: Plums, alcohol, caramelised malts, faint... something spice i can’t seem to put my finger on.

Palate: Sweet hits you right off the bat, alcohol, perfect carbonation for this beer, medium body, faint bitternes that is somewhat longlasting...

Flavors: Nutty.alcohol comes back again, hints of plums, malts and that SPICE i can’t put my finger on..........

Notes: strong notes of alcohol overall

Nice light tan bubbly head that produced almost an inch of head on a careful pour. Beer is dark brown / ruby red. Roasted malts dominated the aroma, but a slight fruitiness does exist. Could use a tad more smell. Taste is also mostly rich roasted malts and a lot of them. Mmm mmm mmm! The sweetness that is there is caramelly. Nice balanced bitter touch. It’s chewy forsure. Why do mushrooms creep into my head...that’s pretty screwed up! I hate mushrooms. It’s all in my head. There is no mushrooms here.... Mouthfeel is quite smooth with just a hint of the 7%. Nice soft carbonation. Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaltssssssssssssssssss. Mushroooms again on final taste. I’ll never buy this again, unless I need a bock and lots of malts, which I always do...crap. How come I cannot find Frankenheim in Edmonton anymore?
