2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Trev (1424) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - DEC 5, 2005
From the can: Poured an orangish gold with minimal white head.
Aroma is sweet and cloying like honey and alcohol mixed with baking bread.
Flavour is slightly fruity (apricot) sweet and warming. Good balance in flavour for 7% alc. Clean bitter finish that doesn’t linger too long.
The only Holsten’s beer I like...that I’ve tried so far anyway.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20 Hooker (450) - New Westminster, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 7, 2005
Clear pale gold colour with thin white head. Very mild bread nose. Mild malt taste with slight bread notes and no finish.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Dextolen (151) - Michigan, USA - SEP 2, 2005
Bottle. Dark yellow, head gone in a moment. Aromas of malt and something akin to corriander. Sweet, a bit sour. Aftertaste is like vegetable medley soaked in gasoline.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Papsoe (21782) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - AUG 26, 2005
(Can 50 cl) Beautiful, golden beer - not much head though. Very well-balanced between a weak sweetness and a pleasant bitterness. Not a hugely personal beer, but professionally crafted. 250200
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 tupalev (2708) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 22, 2005
Shared with Harry and blankboy. My first Holsten, other than proudly wearing my old Spurs shirt that they sponsored. Some sweetness and harsh alcohol in aroma. Medium yellow, frothy white head. Strong harsh taste. Sweet, but unbalanced with alcohol and not near enough of an assertive body to hold everything together. I didn’t enjoy this at all as the harshness really got to me.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 blankboy (4287) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 22, 2005
Can shared with HogTownHarry & tupalev -- courtesy of tupalev. Pours a clear, flat gold with a small diminishing white head. Aroma of sweet malt and grain. Flavour was also sweet malt & grain but with an alcohol burn at the forefront. Not bad for Holsten but quite mediocre for a Bock -- there’s so much better out there.

Can (500ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and tupalev - courtesy of tupalev. Poured a clear gold with a white head. Initially sweet aroma with just a hint of hops and wheat and sweet fruit; then vegetal sourness develops with warming/oxidizing. Flavour is quite fruity malt sweet, a hint of molasses, some hops and a strange clanging petroleum note in the background. Mouthfeel very light, a little minerally. Very good food-accompanying beer.
