2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
I must admit first that I've never liked Holts' bitter - it's a love or hate thing around Manchester and I just don't like the stuff, no matter how hard I try! Copper in colour with a peardrop nose. Quite sweet caramel body with harsh slightly artificial tasting bitterness and more peardrops, then a caramelly bitter finish. Not my taste at all. (cask in Crown & Cushion, Manchester)

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask Conditioned, at the Head of Steam, Euston, London.
Clear, deep amber coloured body with a medium rich, fluffy beige head. Good bitter with nice long bitter finish. Light and refreshing. I quaffed the absolute ass off this beer. The first of many with chris_o in a mini London pub crawl on a Wednesday night. Ooouuhhh.. my head!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: FEB 1, 2007 Mid copper colour. Not as bitter as I had anticipated from its reputation (but quite bitter nonetheless). Low on aroma, but quite fruity on the palate, with some malt. Well balanced. Quite dry finish, but I detected a hint of sweetness too. Handpump, Head of Steam, Euston, London, Spetember 2003

3.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A very bitter, bitter beer. Brewed in Manchester, England by Joseph Holt. It is cheap as well at only £1.24 per pint (U.S.$2). The only bad thing is the aroma!

Leafy, earthy, ~27 IBUS; creamy body; decent pint. Nice singing at the Hare & Hounds, and we were the only people in the place under 60.

Sampled cask conditioned at Hare & Hounds, Manchester.
Amber colour. Hay aroma. Dry with nice malt profile and pleasant salty finish. A wonderfully well balanced bitter!
