Bottle. Clear tea-coloured ale with a thin off-white head. Nose has a slight honey tinge with a touch of banana. First swig give you a blast of maple, which gives way to a bitter, resinous body. You’re left with a nice warm sweet maple taste in the mouth - rather pleasant.

500ml bottle from Sainsbury’s. Not much to say about this beer. It’s just a bit average.

Pours copper with hardly any head. Smell is malty and slightly sweet. On first taste I didn’t really think there was much at all going on but after a few more sips I noticed the flavours coming through. Mildly sweet and malty with floral notes. Unless the bottle stated it I wouldn’t pick up on the maple, then the hop bitterness comes through which lifts this beer up from below average. It has a very thin mouth feel and the carbonation levels are a bit too strong for this type of beer. All in all not bad and I would drink it again but nothing too special.

Philym (1003) - St Neots, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - DEC 13, 2013
Appearance: Clear amber with 2 finger thick loose ivory head. Aroma: Hint of maple, more like burnt caramel, raisin, fruity and biscuit. Taste: Low/medium sweet and bitterness and low sourness. Palate: Thin smooth texture, light body, average/prickly carbonation, astringent lingering bitter sour finish after an initial sweetness. Comments: Tasty and glass lace.

Bottle. This is a sweet bitter with the subtlest hint of maple flavor. Not bad if itw what you are looking for.

Pours copper color with a medium head. Aroma of pine, some hops, sweet fruits and caramel malts. Flavor of nuts, caramel malts, fruits and hay. A bit too nutty for me.

500ml Bottle from Morrisons (£1.59):
Sweet, biscuit malts and sugar, it is also very bitter on the nose. There is a definite fruit base with cherries and some strongish caramel.
Caramel amber with a clear body and a thumb sized, dome shaped, foamy white head that reduces in size only slightly.
Caramel & biscuit malts with a strong bitter undercurrent and lots of darker fruits. There is some some cherries and sugar with a touch of hops and maple too. Sweet and bitter finish.
Smooth, medium and moderate carbonation. Goes down well and seems stronger than it is.Quite creamy feeling.

Sweet and seemed stronger than the 4.8% abv. on the label. I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would with the dark fruits and sugar working well with the bitterness. It was a pleasant tipple.
