Pours almost totally black with a short lived off-white head. Aroma is roasty notes with coffee with hints of fruits. Taste is also coffee with roasted malt and alcohol leading to a sweetish roasty finish with light hop notes. Not bad.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, King’s Lynn
Hazy brown color, with generous head. Very nice aroma of dark malts, caramel, wood, cream, light smoke. Good body, with good malt and caramel flavor, some toffee, treacle; the final is more woody, and drier (this is a pity), with delicate smoke.
For once a different Ale, very good.

teddybeer (2224) - Madrid, SPAIN - FEB 2, 2012
500ml bottle. Brown/red colour with a creamy, frothy and medium persistent tan head. Aroma is slightly toasty, sweet and slightly coffee. Flavour is malty, sweet and smooth at the beginning and a bittery final with an aftertaste maintained. Some caramel and licorice hints are noticeable. Carbonation is medium. Body is medium to high. Texture is oily.

Saboreada en Mayo´11. Copa Oversized. Enjoyed on May´11. Oversized glass.Pours dark brown in color. Beige creamy foam. Quite well retention leaving watery lacing rings. Toasted malts & forest berries undernotes on nose. Sligthly sweet flavor, mildy hints of coffee & smooth bitterness tasting up to the aftertaste.Hops almost imperceptible. Low carbonation but fat sensation mouthfeel. Not overhelming alcohol feeling makes it drinkable. A little dissapointing overall.

KyotoLefty (6450) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 19, 2010
Bottle. Very dark brown with a thick tan head. Burnt, bittersweet aroma. Very well roasted malt flavor, just a bit sweet, with dried dark fruits, cream, chocolate, coffee. Dry, roasted, slightly hoppy finish. A rather interesting beer, and a nice change from all the bitters I had tonight. Nice, rich beer.

Bottle at home (bought in Manc). Prune juice brown with a thin tan head. Much better than I expected. Roasty/smokey notes with some caramel and not too overpoweringly sweet. Quite refined for Holts.
