2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 maeib (6637) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - APR 22, 2012
Bottled. A golden orange coloured beer with barely any head. A bit sweaty fusty on the nose. Clean and orangey in the mouth. Obvious pasterurisation but it’s drinkable enough.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 10, 2012
One of 16 bottled beers in the 2011 Sainsbury’s Supermarket Beer Challange.
Clear 500ml bottle, two owls on a small golden front label. The beer was poured into a UK pint sleeve (Sep 2011). I knew the beer was a clear golden colour, the head that came was white, small and struggled to stay the distance.
The aroma was of grassy hops with maybe some citrus esters easing through as the beer warmed.
No great flavours to pontificate about, just a boring blend of hops and malts, this isn’t going to win anything.
Don’t like slagging off small breweries, but this is a poor attempt for a challenge against 15 other brews.

500ml bottle from Sainsbury’s, drunk on 2 December 2011. Mid gold colour. Decent condition. Rather grainy aroma. Bready on the palate. Quite soft. Short of bitterness and hop character. Nothing too interesting here.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DruncanVeasey (5150) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - OCT 13, 2011
Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Brilliant bronze with a slick white head. Aroma of mashed up digestive biscuits and pine cones. That kind of safe, generic, delicately spicy taste with good aniseedy hop, vanilla leaning into toffee/oak, fresh snapped biscuit, to be fair. Good, just a little dead after a night on the Southville Hop.
