COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When the weather outside gets frightful, beer gets stronger, and while every brewery seems to have a winter seasonal, every brewery and their brother seems to have a Christmas beer. Meanwhile, everyone’s favorite, debaucherous follow-up to Christmas is left out in the craft beer cold, so to speak. So what better way to honor that reset button of holidays, and buck the Christmas beer trend, than to brew a beer for New Year’s Eve? Ours is a massive doppelbock, loaded with malt sweetness and deep dark fruit notes, and sporting a hot 10% ABV.

IBUs: 40
Notable hops: Vanguard
Notable malts: Bohemian Pilsner, Munich II, Caramunich II, Carafa II

2014 batch at the source. Pitch black with khaki head. Medium mouthfeel with well hidden alcohol that comes through in the finish with a warming sensation. Flavors of licorice and dark fruits.

In a word. Sweet. Really sweet. The malts really take over this one although there is a hop presence from the Vanguard. Pours dark. Medium mouthfeel and carbonation. Not quite the right balance for me, but I am hardly a doppelbock expert. Least favourite of the Holy City flight.

On tap, dark ruby brown pour with no foam, aroma of licorice and chocolates, lots of malty caramel, raisin bread, licorice whips, chocolates, dense syrupy finish

Served on draft at the brewery. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toffee, raisin, herbal hops, spice and citrus. The taste is toffee, raisin, dark malts, chocolate and a hoppy finish. Medium bodied with a faint bit of booze. Nice.
