Growler shared by Caterwaul. Dark brown reddish color, clear body. One finger thick brown head, good lace. Nice toasted malt and chocolate aroma. Good smooth lighter carbonation. Medium body. Lightly dry in the finish. More sweet taste, a light bit of bitter. Very solid, smooth, tasty porter.

On tap at Mellow Mushroom, Charleston. Decently inviting dark brown pour, though nothing especially notable about it. Cloudy looking, spotty head. Earthy nose with chocolate malts and dark bread notes. Mouthfeel could be a bit more substantial but it’s fairly close to the mark. Loads of chocolate flavors in the taste, warming and satisfying but nothing over the top. Decent.

Holy city pluff mud sounds rather sacreligious but oh well, this is a pretty damn good beer from an upstart brewery from my homestate. Pours coffee black with a thin tan head. Lots of chocolate and some licorice notes in the aroma. Flavor is much of the same with some coffee ground bitterness rounding it out. Solid effort.

My favourite brew from Holy City. Looks and smells like your classic delicious porter. Quickly dissipating tan head- thin mouthfeel. Chocolate, coffee and some pluff mud on the palate. Not too hoppy but decent balance. Not the most complex porter you will ever have, but HC has succeeded in a beer that is still appealing in warmer weather. A true testament to this brew is the "non-dark-beer-drinker" next to me in the tasting room that suprised himself by finishing every last drop and loving it.

Black like I love them to be. Coffee cocoa smell and taste. Good brew from an even better state.
