Pours fairly flat though a few large bubbles do appear, lacing is nil. Was able to rouse up a nice small light brown head but that dropped quickly. Yup, it,s black alright. Faint nose of chocolate and roast with other faint fruity notes. Body is medium, sorta thin for an Impy. Lightly coating on the palate. Soft flavors of roast, coffee, chocolate, light fruitiness and berryish notes, hint of licorice, and somewhat sweet malts. Lightly sweet finish, dark chocolate with a little tang, hmmmm. Props to oldstylecubfan for the bottle!

Oct 4, 2008 12oz bottle scored in a trade with daknole. Thanks Dakine! Pours an opaque black with a thin white head, only slightly thick with light carbonation. Aroma is very unique for an ’imperial stout’, very floral, fruity, black pepper, chocolate and spice. Flavor is similar, starts out with sweet roasted malts, then nuts and pepper come in, the pomegranate can be sensed at the end with a juicy like fruitiness. Finish is chalky, dry and medium bodied. Very pleasant and extremely unique. One of a kind actually. Doesn’t hold up well next to other imperials, but that’s because it’s a type of stout unique to itself.

Oct 4, 2008 12 oz. bottle courtesy of Beerlando. Dark black pour with a thin, dark tan head. Aroma of sour pomegranate and cocoa. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is very different. Initially, it is quite fruity, but that quickly gives way to sweet chocolates and roasted malt. Finish has a touch of bitterness with some smoky notes as well. Interesting beer, well done.

Oct 3, 2008 Bottle pours black with thin tan head. Aroma is coffee, cherry, roasty, and sweetness. Has a heavy mouthfeel to it. Taste is rich, smooth coffee and chocolate, subtle fruit notes, and has a creamy finish to it. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. Its a very good beer and I think is highly overrated.

Oct 2, 2008 Nose is coffee and chocolate, black, small cappuccino head. Taste is a rich cocoa, and then fine coffee. Full bodied, balanced, bitter and oily. Terrific! Thank You Beershine and Oakes.

Oct 1, 2008 12oz bottle. Poured deep ruddy brown with almost zero head. The aroma picked up sour pomegranate and cherry pit notes upfront, giving a bright, funky twist to the style.. semi-sweet chocolate and a hint of copper behind (the latter may have been related to the fruit).. the interesting factor outweighed the I-was-kinda-feeling-a-traditional-deep-roasted-no-adjuncts-imperial-stout. The flavor opened with tart pomegranate juice, then opened up to more roasty malt character than the nose (blend of sweet and darker chocolates, mild coffee bitterness, and a pinch of brown sugar).. the fruit juice outweighed the chocolate by a little on the back-end and through the finish.. bright overall feel to it. Medium-bodied and tangy on the palate with a sweet underlying impression.. a little tacky on the finish.. intriguing brew that isn’t in the same league as the better imperial stouts.
