Dull amber. The aroma is spicy (astringent coriander) and fairly yeasty. Malty, a little bit gluey, sweet with cinnamon and other spices in the background. Not particularly refined. A drinkable beer, though, that would be better if it was a bit lighter.

Pours hazy rusty golden, with a nice foamy mattress head. Aroma is malty, earthy, fruity and sweet. Taste is sweet and malty, and thirst quenching. Mild alcohol taste despite the ABV, nice appreciable taste of honey. Finish is short, sweet and leaves you wanting more. Quaff Score 7 / 10

Pours amber with a beige head and aroma of spices, malt, and yeast. Flavor is sweet, of malts, spices, yeast, and fruits with the alcohol well hidden at 10%. Good, solid brew that has nice flavor and taste.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2012 This is great wheat, barley and yeast tasting beer. It does have any strong caramel or roast flavor. just simple, bold and good.

Bottle from Whole Foods. Amber, nice hue with slight haze, stable head. Aroma is very familiar, herbal, American saison, St. Somewhere-like. Spicy-floral. Guava and membrillo pastes, with edible flowers. Light palate. The alcohol is completely, admirably well-disguised. The flavors pretty much match the aromas, with the quince pocket of fruit, and getting some lavender too. Yuzu and other mild, non-acidic citrus, plus rip carambola. Very, very sweet. The first few sips seem cloying but then the palate adjusts and then, it manages to be drinkable. Itís admittedly overtone of fruits and flowers without much depth of character, foundation of malt, or undertone highlight., But all together an impressive offering.

This is strange one indeed. It has the aroma of white pepper and rotted oranges and maybe cough syrup. Itís a 2010 edition which is not old at all for something like this, so I have to imagine. I tried two just to make sure it wasnít an infected bottle. Itís sweet like a mimosa that has nutrisweet mixed in. I have to assume the brewer planned this and chose the psuedo-Bret strand accordingly. Drain pour.

2011 Vintage. Pours opaque orange with small white fizz. Smells peppery and fruity with hints of bitterness underneath. Tastes fruity, sweet malted with hints of pepper or funk, pretty much a solid tripel with some saison qualities. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and surprisingly soft mouth-carbonation, Holy Mackerel Panic Attack (2011) finishes with some slightly unpleasant sweetness.

Bottle from Liz. Pours copper with a very slight white head. Aroma is yeasty/dusty. Med body. Flavor is sort of barley wine/roast malt - with some brown sugar (barley wine?). Thereís some citrus and some yeast/spice. Perhaps a bit floral. I call this Belgian barley wine. Very different. So it takes some getting used to - and I have.

An artificial, cherry soda aroma. Hazy, light brown beer, the label looks as if it were designed by the guys down at the Surf Shak. A strange brew -- prominent cherry cola/Dr. Pepper. Cinnamon, spices, moderate cinnamon bark astringency. Just one of these should be enough for you. If it is, in fact, 10% ABV then the alcohol is well-masked. Light, spice-bitter finish which clings a bit. New Leaf Market.

Now this is my kind of Belgian Strong. Aroma was nice and sweet and the taste did not disappoint. Acquired from a trade, if I could get myself a 6-pack of this, I would. Nice smooth finish. I am not a huge Belgian fan, but this one hit the spot.
