COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This mead is somewhat of a shock to the senses. African Birds Eye Chili or Habanero Chili lends an interesting wooded nose to the mead, which is entirely overwhelmed by the first sip, which clears the sinuses in a way similar to that of eating half a cup of Wassabi with a sushi roll. This mead is best served as an ice breaker at dinner parties, especially if the food will be hot. It is also quite amusing later on in a dinner party to circulate a bottle of Chili mead when some of the guests become competitive.

Thanx to RedLight for sharing this. The nose was sweet with some spicy peppery notes.Flavor was thin and sweet but the burn came through on the back of my throat. It finished the way it started sweet and spicy but the heat didn’t linger too long.

Bottled, thanks fiulijn! Bright golden, no head. Citric honey aroma without a trace of chili. While the habanero chilit totaly overwhelms the honey sweetness, it still remains interesting as an experimental drink. Not exactly refreshing or thirst quenching. But the flavour is actually quite nice. Just stock up on a nice pilseners or something to wash it down with.

@Maxx’s TURD Tasting-thanks jtc-750ml bottle-pours yellow and still. Aroma is vinegar/cheese/green pepper, light malt. Taste is chili, light malt-sweet. Warms as it goes down. Interesting nose, nice taste.

Bottle at Max’s for the Turd Tasting. Pours a golden orange body with no head or lacing. Aroma is sweet honey, pepper, cinnamon and chili peppers. Mouthfeel is spicy beyond tolerable, pepper and chili over-dominate other flavors of honey, apple and sweet sugar.

Bottle at the TURD tasting. Pours gold with a white head. Actually smells quite good, with honey sweetness and lighter notes of chili pepper. The flavor is just a bit too hot. There’s some light pepper and sweet honey in the background. Not that good, but I don’t really like beers made with chili pepper.

Bottle thanks to James at a tasting at Max’s for Sam’s visit. Pours a clear gold. Smells quite cheesy, sweet on the nose. Smells like blue cheese and honey. Medium bodied, sweet up front slowly develops into a light heat. Smooth and delicate. Really like this actually. Gentle heat with a nice amount of sweetness to balance it out. More lingering heat and a bit more blue cheese. Buffalo wing mead.

Bottle shared by me at MaxxDaddy’s tasting. Pours clear gold. Nose/taste of honey, coffee and chili pepper. Slightly vegetal on the nose from the chili. Initial honey sweetness on the palate is followed by increasing chili heat. Medium body.

Bottle generously shared by jtclockwork at the NY Meet the TURD tasting. Pours a clear canary yellow, headless. Aroma is pungent of spicy bell pepper, cheese, and vinegar. Slight vinegar flavor with cheese, red and green peppers, and honey. Silky sweet honey in the finish. Spice lingers for quite a while. I’d enjoy eating this more than drinking this.

Bottle from jtclockwork. Nice spiciness, sweet honey aroma. Charred pepper. Fairly thin flavor, drinkable, good solid heat. I like it.

Ulfborg Scooper Smagning 2012. Golden with no head. Aroma of honey, bees wax, green pepper and raisins. Flavour has a touch of honey, drowned in offensive chili heat

Tap - no head, light amber color, definite chili aroma, apple cider kind of flavor with a nice shot of chili spice and alcohol. This is my first try of mead, very interesting to say the least, not bad at all
