mj (4971), Colorado, USA Aug 25, 2005 22oz bottle, picked up at Bottleworks. Murky orange and almost brown hue with a tan head. Smells of sugary sweet hop oils, tinny and pine-like, but also mellow, with an undertone of melon. The texture is very interesting: smooth, almost creamy up front, a little peppy on the back - all the time very fresh and lively. Tastes moderately acidic, slightly milky and creamy, with flavors of pine wood, oranges, kumquats and some perfumy floral notes. Very decent, certainly drinkable, and surprising consider the bad experiences I’ve had with three other Hood Canal beers. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA Aug 24, 2005 22 oz. bomber, shared with the DarkElf himself - many thanks! Pours slightly hazy deep amber color with a moderate and somewhat foamy off-white head. A bit of a soured fruit aroma was moticible right off the bat, fruity, earthy and musty with some cheesey notes to boot. Sweet flavor, quite hoppy with again a little sour fruit as well as tart blacberry, citrus hoppiness and floral notes. Medium body and average carbonation. Not so great, but perhaps this bottle was a bit off... BeerLimey (1873), California, USA Aug 20, 2005 Looks like most people got a gusher, myself included, dull copper appearance. Sweet spice, damp cedar aroma, mild grapefruit. Sweetish almost herbal flavor, grapefruit bitterness that is very mild, fairly dry finish. Interesting taste. beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Aug 19, 2005 22oz bottle. A very full 22oz bottle. It was full to the top of the cap with beer, no air space in this one. Orange gold color. Large white foamy head. Aroma is mild grapefruit and wood. A light to medium bodied IPA. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are grapefruity and piney. Perhaps a touch thin. Lots of orange peel and citrusy flavors, as well as lots of piney hops. Fairly solid typical PNW IPA. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is bitter. porterdude (170), Bellingham, Washington, USA Jun 27, 2005 Bottle. POured a deep murky coppersih color, with a nice white head. Grassy and malty smell. A really good blend of hops and malts comes through in this beer. A real enjoyable IPA. BückDich (4785), McCall, Idaho, USA Feb 10, 2005 Gusher: Hazy bronze (bottle conditioned so the yeast came back into suspension due to the gusher effect). Head is alien and exotic in shape after the massive head dissipated. Not really lacing anymore, more like pillows. Nose of grapefruit, cedar like wood & citrus notes, light tart with yeast. Sour/tart flavor not sweet at all, almost like an orange/banana smoothie at one of the new chic juice places. Thanks Ken! IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA Dec 6, 2004 Bottle A Gusher! A cloudy medium redish amber with a huge foamy light tan head. Lots of sweet and fuity spicy notes and not much hops for an IPA. Lots of sweet malt as well. A sour acidic flavor that covers about everything else. Not so sure this isn’t a bad bottle. Will try my other one soon. mreeves (257), Sammamish, Washington, USA Jun 7, 2004 A darkish IPA (had dry hopped version on tap). Nice hoppy aroma and flavor, but nothing special.
