Your nose will do a double take on this buxom beauty. Pungent citrus, stone fruit, floral, and pine resin aromas high jump out of the glass. Complex malt flavors steady the wheel before the hops careen you into a bridge embankment. Get ready for one massive aroma-coma!

On draught at the nanobrewery (two-barrel brewhouse) near Marengo, Ohio. Pours a hazy golden pale colored IPA with a decent sized and rocky off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some excellent lacing. Aroma of hard fruits, floral hops, a hint of pine and a touch of pear. Taste is medium to full bodied, nicely carbonated with flavors of floral and some English dry hops, a touch of citrus zest and golden grain malt. Finish starts off with a floral hop aftertaste and then escalates to a lingering mild bitterness the slowly disappears. Excellent inaugurational beer and look forward to their next release.

Tasted from draft. Pours a hazy light gold with white head. Aroma is floral with some pine and a little citrus. Taste is very well balanced. Moderate sweetness and moderate bitterness. Very clean long lasting crisp bitterness. Flavors of citrus and tropical fruit with floral notes, pine and caramel. Very solid IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2015 First can release. July 2015 poured in to a tulip/snifter July 26, 2015. This is an edit of a draft review done in June 2015. Can was better than the keg. Look - White head thick with a weak pour. Sticky. Pale yellow-orange color. Hazy. Sediment. Smell - Very faint hop/citrus. Grapefruit. Nutty. Taste - Bitterness overcame the citrus. Tasted a little nutty to me. A little dank. Bitterness on the tongue to finish. Feel - Heavy for single IPA. I like it when there isn’t too much carbonation. Little chewy. Overall - The bread and butter of Hoof Hearted. I can’t wait until they are more main scale (June 2015 review). The canned version was better than the keg (July 2015).

I had not heard of Hoof Hearted before so when stopping in Columbus at Surly Girl I chose the local option. The result was a solid IPA which is not going to change anyone’s perception of the style but indicates a focus on quality instead of gimmicks. I’d love to try their other offerings.

Aroma / Appearance - A hazy bronze base with minimal stiff white head fills the glass. Citrus, mango, and bright hops are fresh on the nose. Warm and inviting it is somewhere just above the sessionable cutoff in feel.

Flavor / Palate - Citrus, mango, and grapefruit leave a strong impression on the tongue and throat. Bitter tea dregs help carry it to a lemony finish like someone blended rinds and then threw in a splash of sugar. The piney aspect balances out the minor contribution of malts. A promising start for a new brewery, this is on par with what I have tried from places like Columbus Brewing and Elevator.

Pour at surly girl in hipster side of columbus (a groovy bar with fantastic vintage music & dark setting with glowing red lights) is aromatic & mysterious - a mystery that goes beyond the bartender’s mumble (where he riffed on the ’who farted’ pun of the beer title) but its the taste that wins here (much like its the writing style that wins with my beer reviews -- this being the longest one sentence review in the history of the site - with all this crazy syntax & grammar fireworks) with uncommon floral notes & bursting hop, making this a fantastic brew.

Golden ipa with a thin sticky off white head. Sharp grapefruit rind and pine nose. This is a nice PNW style ipa. Pine, grapefruit rind, and something earthy all over a strong malty backbone. Long bitter finish. Very solid ipa.

Sample at the Spring Forward tasting at Brew’s Cafe on 3/9/13. Clear gold to amber pour with a huge off-white head. Aroma of malt, orange and pine. Malty flavor with tropical fruit accents and some citrus before a faint, grassy finish.

On draft at 1808 in Columbus. Pours a mostly clear orange-amber with a white head. Nose is some caramel with hints of pine and floral hops. Flavor follows with a bit of drying going on in the finish. Light to medium in body and an interesting IPA overall.

Draft sample at CMBF 2012. Poured a clear copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate sour citrus and earthy malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Sample at the Columbus Microbrew Festival on 09/16/2012: The beer is a clear orange-amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, hops and malt. Medium body with flavors citrusy hops, bready malt and some pine. The finish is short with a fruity aftertaste. All in all a decent IPA.
