scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jun 16, 2008 Tasting - Perfect Pour. Dark brown, tan creamy head. Soft toasty milk chocolate nose with undertones of cocoa berry. Soft roasty chocolate flavor balances on a light earthed berry-like tone. Light bodied, soft carbonation, mild chocolate finish. Decent, but nothing special... blindeyedbetty (148), Arlington, Virginia, USA Jun 8, 2008 12 oz. bottle pours an opaque garnet-brown with thick off-white head. Malty aroma with buttery front palate, roasted, earthy middle palate and a mild finish of hops. Medium bodied. Lots of carbonation. I really wanted to like this beer a lot more than I did. Definitely drinkable but nothing extraordinary. tjthresh (1750), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Jun 6, 2008 12 ounce bottle. Pours clear brown with a thick tan head. Sort of a plain roasted malt aroma. Just little bit of hops. Chocolate and nutty flavor with a balanced bitterness. Medium, but watery. High carbonation. Dry finish. Basic stuff. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 6, 2008 6-5-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to jwale23
Amber brown with no real lasting head. Smell is light malt and peanuts. Flavor is watery malt - very watery, in fact. Highly carbonated and just too watery for me. Not very interesting or developed overall. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 5, 2008 Bottle from jwale23 in trade. Thanks man!
Pours a clearish brown to maroon with a short lived beige head. Smell is slightly cocoa and nutty maltiness. Taste is thin, nutty, and tart malt. Body is medium to thin with high bubbly carbonation. Pretty run of the mill brown overall. I could do without the slight tart twang, however. Drinkable, but nothing too special swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Jun 2, 2008 Bottle. Best of the Hook & Ladder series. Nice deep brown color. Malty sweet aroma. Decent mouthfeel. Flavor was roasty, nutty & somewhat sweet. Decent brown ale mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA May 27, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a cola like brown color with a tan head. Nose is roasted malt and nuts. Pretty average palate with moderate carbonation. Taste was mild molasses and nuts. Mildly sweet. Moderately priced too. $7.99 a sixer. Nice sessionable brown ale. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA May 13, 2008 Very nice appearance, very deep brown, getting towards black, with ruby highlights and a nice tan head. Aroma was lightly roasty, nothing wrong there. The flavor was a bit odd, roasty at first, but followed by a strange sweet molasses flavor. If you looked, you could pick out a trace of an almost floral hop on the finish. Not bad, but a bit sweet for me.
