jb (1024), Rochester, New York, USA May 3, 2008 Grassy and malty aroma along with some hoppy aroma. Nice looking reddish brown with thick head with nice lacing and retention. Palate is sweet, caramel, lemon and nuttiness. Dry finish. MarkBarnes (264), Waterville, New York, USA Apr 30, 2008 Apr. 30, 2008; 12 oz. bottle from a sixer purchased for $7.99 USD in the local grocery store. Hadn’t seen any Hook and Ladder products in Central NY until quite recently. Dark "stouty" brown. Nutty, sweet-malt flavor with a bitter and slightly-metallic hop finish that garners points for interest, if not for outstanding flavor. A flawed, but serviceable session ale. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 30, 2008 Bottle from beeronthewall. Pours medium hazy brown with nose of slightly charred caramel malt, brown sugar, mild almond, and mild root cellary hints. Tastes caramel malty, with some brown sugar, toffee, and cobwebby esters. Firemoose15 (540), Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 18, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of toasted malts and grain. Poured a hazy cloudy brown. Flavor was good sweetly nutty. Palate was good easily drinkable. Not bad. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA Apr 18, 2008 Amber pour with a thin tan head. Bit of a grainy malt nose. Lightly sweet malt flavor with a bit of caramel and nut. Watery and thin, though. needs more body. Meh. georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA Apr 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours a brownish amber with a thin head. Aroma was sweet and mild with some cherry. Taste was both sweet and sour, and perhaps some woodiness. jsquire (2087), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Apr 17, 2008 Deep, rich brown color with a foamy tan head that left attractive lacing on the glass. Toasted cereal grain nose. Dark caramel sweetness with lots of roasted grains and burnt toast flavors. The burnt really comes to the fore in the finish, and gets a little tangy and a little astringent. Functional example of what I consider to be a bland style.
