3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 tombyars (691) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - JAN 12, 2012
First tasted this in Blackfriers, Glasgow in December 1990. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull dark mahogany in colour with a thick creamy head. Strong roast coffee beans in the intense creamy aroma. Surprisingly thick creamy mouthfeel for 3% and good lacing throughout. Dark malts give a full plethora of flavours with roast grain flavours at the start. These fade to give rich maltloaf with syrupy dates and raisins, sweet flavours of treacle toffee and mocha fudge are also present. Short prickle of hop resins give a dusty aftertaste. Finish is malty with dry notes of liquorice coming through. A cracking session mild which is packed full of flavour and tastes far stronger than og suggests.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Martian1 (10) - East Sussex, ENGLAND - MAR 1, 2011
I thought this beer was just an average dark mild and i have in the past tasted better dark milds at my local pub. It didnt have great head retention and i know the beer was meant to be slightly matly but i found it far to overpowering.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Fin (5489) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - MAR 9, 2006
I used to drink this frequently and to be truthful I never noticed any discernible difference when it had a name change to hooky dark. This best mild was decent enough but overall I felt it to be thin and lacking in flavour, guess what the new one was pretty much the same, mmhh.. Hooky missed a trick there I think.

Mid to dark brown. Some fruitiness. Finishes smoothly on the palate.
1.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 pughy1957 (61) - Rugby, ENGLAND - AUG 3, 2004
Little aroma, little taste,a slight dark maltiness leads to a dry bitter sweet finish. I know it’s only 3% but why bother. Try brewing a mild at 5-6% and get the taste buds going. This is very mediocre and tasteless.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Gazza (726) - Worcester, Worcestershire, ENGLAND - APR 13, 2004
Similar to the bitter; a thin, subtle, gentlly flavoured brew which can have nice aniseed/liquorice and chocolate notes when served properly. Too often past it's best. Could do with a bit more oomph. (cask in Cap & Gown, Worcester)

Cask Conditioned, Hook Norton Brewery, Hook Norton, Oxon. A delicious dark mild, packed with flavour. I could drink this like lemonade.

Oxford Beer Fest. Gravity. Light bodied. Clean limbed and lithe. Nice licorice flavours. A decent mild, but nothing outstanding.
