3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: AUG 19, 2011 1) Cask handpull at The Pear Tree, Hook Norton and The Reindeer, Banbury. Same biscuit and honey malt fullness as the Old Hooky; hints of pear and apple but with an added dimension of beansprout, walnut, chocolate and earth lurking beneath. Full, complex, hugely drinkable... Leafy citrus hints as from the Willamette I’ve been nibbling of late, especially on the burp. Drawn-out, nutty malt afters. Easy drinking and layered with malt and fruit depth. Tasty.
2) Bottle. Good looking beer with a huge tufted and head and bags of condition. Aroma mouldering pink/red apple and warm polythene; flavour discreetly heady with orange peel and fruit loaf notes and a lightly roasted, nut-hinting finish. Grew on me. 646414.
