3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark, almost black color, good creamy beige head. Chocolaty, a bit coffeish aroma. Medium-bodied. Slightly ashy, licorice, coffee. Quite dry and even hoppy dry stout. More substance than in pasteurized bottle.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
I had to re-rate this stout after my good friend Jimthechap compared it to Monica Bellucci in a glass. Oh Christ of a thousand years!,What was I missing?! My first rating was not too flattering, and if this was indeed as good as MB, I’d buy a yearly supply. But not to worry. This is a hormonal thing. There’s no chemistry here and I still think it is one –dimensional. Good body, but it doesn’t do much to me. More like Penelope Cruz in a glass. / Rated 09 Sep 2012 -->I find it hard to believe that the bottle I had was so well rated on this website. Perhaps mine was not a good showcase of this stout. Excessive carbonation, growing a foamy head that spills over faster than one would be prepared for. It hangs there, like sea scum, bursting its bubbles and leaving a brown, dried framed skeleton, like a dead sponge. The aroma was subtle, coffee, roasted malts and raisins, plus the alcohol, the latter not too subtle. Flavour of malts and a tad of chocolate, not very exciting, with a little bitterness which I must confess, is well balanced. There’s hardly any finish to it. I’d like to think I was unlucky with my bottle, but maybe this is the nature of bottle-conditioned for these beers: no consistency. I must re-visit this beer one day.

Beautiful black appearance with mountain like brown foam. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate milk, noble hops and some citrus. Medium oily mouthfeel. Aftertaste is bitter with loads of noble hops and citrus. Overall: Amazing when considering abv!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
My love of stout is well documented, mainly by me in these pages on this site. As far as black goes, it is rosy when held up to the light. The head is fluffy and cream coloured. It is a gorgeous looking pint (and I seldom give 5s in this category). The aroma is of mild charry roastiness. Not massively complex, but there is discernible coal, cola and dark chocolate. Predominantly it is of well done brown toast. This charriness is evident in the flavour without being overwhelming and it is those same toasty flavours along with some dark treacle, without being sweet. What a charmer. I could handle a dozen of these, all the while thinking of a dozen more. Monica Belucci in a glass and just as apt to make me smile.
