3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle - BCA - Dark Brown, nearly Black, in colour. Very malty; lots and lots of chocolate and espresso coffee, caramel, roasty (burnt) malts, hints of nuts and smoke. Fruity; berries. Hoppy; noticeable hop bitterness; spicy peppery hops. Dry bitter roasty malty throughout; quite salty. Very dry roasty bitter finish. Surely this should be categorised as a Dry Stout. Liked this a lot. One of my regular go-to beers. Very nice stout!

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Initial pour is great. Produced a nice head and looked inviting. First taste was ok, bit disappointing to be honest. Slight coffee taste and aromas, even a hint of a dark chocolate in there, but a little flat. Half way through and the had completely disappeared on me, so I’m guessing I didn’t get the best bottle of this. This isn’t a bad beer though so I will definitely revisit.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. A semi-clear, reddish dark brown beer topped by a big, light beige head. The aroma is roasted and slightly burnt, almost bonfire-ish, with hints of cooked vegetables in the far back. The flavor too is mostly on the dark malty side, not as bonfire-ish as the aroma, but still roasted and burnt. Some roasted malt bitterness chimes in, lasting for a good while. Full body and a nice carbonation level. A quite decent one, but I’m more into the American approach to stouts, with less bonfire and charcoal. 130508

Dark, almost black color, good creamy beige head. Chocolaty, a bit coffeish aroma. Medium-bodied. Slightly ashy, licorice, coffee. Quite dry and even hoppy dry stout. More substance than in pasteurized bottle.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
I had to re-rate this stout after my good friend Jimthechap compared it to Monica Bellucci in a glass. Oh Christ of a thousand years!,What was I missing?! My first rating was not too flattering, and if this was indeed as good as MB, I’d buy a yearly supply. But not to worry. This is a hormonal thing. There’s no chemistry here and I still think it is one –dimensional. Good body, but it doesn’t do much to me. More like Penelope Cruz in a glass. / Rated 09 Sep 2012 -->I find it hard to believe that the bottle I had was so well rated on this website. Perhaps mine was not a good showcase of this stout. Excessive carbonation, growing a foamy head that spills over faster than one would be prepared for. It hangs there, like sea scum, bursting its bubbles and leaving a brown, dried framed skeleton, like a dead sponge. The aroma was subtle, coffee, roasted malts and raisins, plus the alcohol, the latter not too subtle. Flavour of malts and a tad of chocolate, not very exciting, with a little bitterness which I must confess, is well balanced. There’s hardly any finish to it. I’d like to think I was unlucky with my bottle, but maybe this is the nature of bottle-conditioned for these beers: no consistency. I must re-visit this beer one day.
