COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled. Pasteurised.
A smooth, full-bodied stout with a refreshing hoppy aftertaste. Brewed with proportions of Black Malt for colour and ’toast’ flavour and Brown Malt for dryness. Based on a recipe over 100 years old, brewing was revived in 1996 after a break of 79 years.

Keg at Hook Norton Brewery. Smooth - i.e. not massive toast. The colour of a carpeted hook. Liked this Stout a lot.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with foamy, rocky offwhite head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee beans and dried dark fruits. Taste is initial light sweet then medium to heavy bitter. Body is medium oily and rich with good carbonation. Finish is long and sweet with notes of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, gravy, prunes and rye bread.

Dark black non-amber pour. Part of 4 for £6 at Tesco. Dark, full flavoured, full bodied, toasted loveliness. I’d happily drink this all night at this price.

A dark black-brown coloured beer with a thick and frothy off white head. A light roasted malt aroma. Nutty and caramel. Very dry mouthfeel. The taste carries in from the aroma, loads of nutty caramel malty bitterness, there is a smokiness in the background. The finish is bitter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled. Pours deep brown, nearly blach with a med. sized tan head, that leaves a fair lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, coffee and chocolate notes. Sweet flavor that ends up dry with a little bitterness. Medium bodied, oily text. and lively carb. A nice stout.

Full bodied almost black stout with a small off white frothy head. Not the most flavoursome despite a healthy roasted aroma.

Black pour. Big tan head. Roasted coffee chocolate aroma. Burnt coffee, charcoal & harsh perfume on the tongue. Maybe I got a bad bottle...

My Bottom Line:
Mild roastiness, molasses and crème brûlée crust give this Dry Stout some personality within its svelte mouthfeel.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam settles atop the brown-hued black.
-This may be nothing special, but it is impeccably done.
-It’s pretty low on hops. There’s a minty edge, but that’s it.
-Carbonation is a tad fizzy.
-The finish is rather dry with more malt flavour and presence.

Bottle.

Pours dark brown with a nice head. Aroma of roasted malts and some coffee. Mouthfeel is medium. Flavour is everything you expect of a stout, roasted malts, bitter coffee, some sweet dark fruits. The abv is low, but this is a pretty decent stout for the relatively low alcohol by volume.
