3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: NOV 5, 2006 Jan, 2005 Bottled. Well. Having this just after Sam Smith’s Oatmeal Stout is quite a revelation. I mean this is not one of the best stouts I’ve ever had, but boy it tastes world class compared to that Sam Smith’s nonsense. Good fresh fruit and coffee and chocolate. Even though filtered, this has no boiled off flavours, and everything tastes pleasantly fresh and in order. Mmmmm. I’m enjoying this. [3.3]
Nov, 2006 Bottled. Very drinkable and pleasant. Less dry and bitter than the Guinness style, less coffee accented than some modern stouts, less sweet than stronger examples. It defines itself by why it is not, largely because it doesn’t set out to define its own place in the stout world. A quiet stout - by that I don’t mean bland or flavourless, but lacking in distinctive character. Drinkable and tasty - and that by itself is good enough for me on most days. Nice one. [3.0]

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. Black with a flash of ruby, washy cream halo of head. Real bite to it, rough burnt toast edge, slight oliy palate. Sweet finish lingers with a creamy coffee aftertaste. Good stuff.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled @ DBF2004: Brownish coloured. Light brown head. Average lasting. Is pretty vague in the aroma. Some cocoa and malt notes are present. Flavour is coffee and light roastyness. Has a light bitter end.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. Some notes of chocolate in the aroma. Black beer with no head. The flavour is slightly sour and (as the commercial description suggests) powdery. Not one of the best stouts (IMO).

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. I'm not really a fan of stouts, but this was better than any mass market rubbish. Strong coffee/chocolate character, but a little too harsh for me. I'll take a Young's Double Chocolate Stout over this (cask or bottle).
