imdownthepub (3963), Banbury, Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, England Oct 11, 2003 Cask Conditioned at The Peyton Arms, Stoke Lyne, Oxon. Brown red beer with thin head. Sharp, acidic cidery beer with a tinny background. Tastes like a rushed attempt to get a beer out for the celebrations, could have done with storing. (from notes) beer_ledgend (774), Meadowbank Auckland, New Zealand May 5, 2003 Dark brown/ Red in colour, very small head, typical English ale. Very boring beer to celebrate the queens jubilee. Nuffield (2532), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jun 4, 2002 What a curious beer. Quickly dissipating head on top of a nice dark ale (I expected, as in other breweries’ Jubilee beers that it would be more ’Golden’- quasi lager). Rich aroma, albeit slightly metallic. Flavor packed a punch: first flavor was a protruding smokiness in the early finish that really surprised me. That mellowed, but the bitterness remained, and as I went through the pint, the sweetness (initially a nice contrast) became a bit annoying. Good body, but provided mostly by the carbonation. Once that was gone, this was less satisfying. (Bottle, albeit purchased at the brewery...rated the night of the concluding Jubilee celebrations, with a toast to the Queen). Joeh (1892), Buckinghamshire, England Jun 2, 2002 Tried cask conditioned. This beer was brewed especially for the Golden Jubilee, in June 2002. The beer is a dark brown, with strong bitter flavours with a heavy body. It’s surprising that Hook Norton would brew a beer dark beer, similar to an old ale for this summer event. I should imagine this wouldn’t be bad in colder weather, however.
