Tasting notes from Hook Norton Brewery and Banbury beer festival. Copper-amber with off-white head. Caramel, biscuit, and fruit aroma notes. Caramel, fruit, earthy, and mild hop notes. Sweet with balancing bitter finish.

Superb condition. Thick off-white head tops the clear amber body. Authentic, yeasty, lightly soapy, kinda caramelly, earthy, balanced components that indeed possess a hay-like reminder, malt-oriented bitter. Freshly cerealic all throughout. Hop bill is bright and fully integrated. Medium, kinda chewy body. Neglectable carbonation. Just a hugely drinkable bitter and possibly the archetype of the style.

Cask@GBBF2007. Golden amber colour with small beige head. Aroma is caramel, sweet woods and some fruits. Flavour issour wood, caramel and quite sweet grass and slight nectar. Pleasant, but a little bit sweet.

Cask at Peterborough Beer Fest 2006. A weird one. Almost clear copper body with many particles and a small off-white head. Smells like a garden with a carrot taste. Very hoppy but not bitter. Soft carbonation with a thin watery body. The end result is not as bad as the description may sound but I wasn’t hooked by this Hook Norton.

[Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen] A slightly hazy orange beer with a beige head. The aroma is fruity combined with light notes of diacethyl. The flavor is sweet diacethyl, combined with preserved peaches. The mouthfeel is a bit sticky.

Cask gravity at The George, Bethersden, Summer BF 2006. Hazy deep copper colour with no head. Not a very good aroma, but sweet sticky hops in mouth are good. Mangoish fruit and hop aroma. Even a bit of farty yeast. It’s either not ready or past it’s best I would guess. Sticky strong hop flavour on end. In fact the sweet sticky hop is just too mcuh for me.
