TheGrandMaster (1617), Auckland, New Zealand Aug 28, 2008 Bottle (in NZ), a clear amber with a creamy white head. A standard ESB earthy malt aroma, only hints of caramal and fruit. More roasted malt character on the palate, nutty, with quite a bit of caramal sweetness. Moderate bitterness in the finish
bobinlondon (485), Harrow, Greater London, England Dec 30, 2008 Bottle from Waitrose. No major complaints here, despite being pasteurised. Bright copper/amber colour with a thin white head. Surprisingly hoppy aroma - slightly resinous and flowery - with caramel and plummy fruit. Flavour falls away a bit, concetrating on fruity malt, decoming dry and reasonably bitter on the finish. Solid but unexciting. The cask is better.
