For me, beer can hardly get better than this. This is a beautiful reddish copper with a huge, light tan head that slowly shrinks to a thin permanent top and nice lacing. The smell, very English, is wonderful It has toasted bread, leaves and tea, spices, caramel, grain, hay, stewed apples, fresh fruit, dried fruit, and nuts. The flavour is complex and exciting but restrained. It hasa lot of leaves and tea, nuts, caramelized dried fruit, juice, toasted bread and grain, hints of citrus and nuts, black pepper, and red wine. The finish is hoppy, crisp and clean, yet long and complex.

Bottled version. There it is, that luscious, juicy malt I want in a true English ale. Soft, toasted, caramel aroma with an underlying butter note. Salt is also noticable in the aroma. Bitterness is prevalent throughout the profile. Toasty, light caramel makes up the bulk of the malt character. The beer is not overwhelming but it has a slight chewy character to it. The earthy, spicy, woody Goldings come out in the finish and combine with a touch of malt sweetness on the middle of the tongue for a phenomenal exit.

500ml brown bottle.Poured a clear dark amber with white head. Sweet malt aroma. Treacle toffee malt flavour with citrus bitterness. Refreshing mouthfeel with long bitter finish. I enjoyed this beer so much I went back to Sainsbury’s & bought four more.
