3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear reddish dark brown with nice tan head that doesn’t last. Subtle, pleasant malty aroma. Lovely palate, plenty of body, almost oily thick with a nice tingle of carbonation. Taste is rich and complex with malty sweetness and chocolates dark roast malts. Overall a great string dark beer.

500ml bottle. pours a dark brown with very small head. just noticed that this is brewed for xmas. I had it in the height of summer on one of the hottest days - still went down well! aroma is rich of malts and spice. taste is much the same and as per the description, a very smooth after taste. some spices right at the end.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
BB 06Feb14. Poured a mahogany red brown colour with a thin light tan bubbly head that diminished quickly to a line of bubbles. Poor lacing. Low carbonation. Aroma delightfully of chocolate but with under-lying alcohol. Taste of malt sweetness followed by a nice mild tasty hops bitterness that was not over-bearing. Medium body. Smooth finish. Quite OK.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A dark deep red beer with a good brown head. Aroma is rather sweet with hints of fresh fruits and malts. Flavor is roasty malty with notes of coffee, nuts with a nice dark bitter chocolaty finished. Stands out from most X-mas ales in a pleasant way.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle - Vintage 2004 (Traded at the brewery late Oct 2004)
Label says: A strong dark beer, originally brewed for the festive season. Maris Otter Malting Barley, Fuggles Goldings and Challenger Hops, with a handful of Chocolate Malt, combine to give a robust, dark ale.
Dark brown in color and a rich head. Plums in aroma. Plums, raisins and nuts in taste. Fullbodied and quite sweet and nice for a cold winters day. A roasted finish with a hint of chocolate/nougat. Very good for a UK bottled beer.

Poured a very dark brown color with a frothy khaki head. Nice aromas and flavors of toffee, caramel, nuts and maybe a little bit of chocolate. Body is a little thin. Sweet and chewy finish. Very good beer.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tummy bug brown, with no mentionable head. I had it too cold, so there isn’t much I can say about the aroma. Flavour is woody, with plenty of alcohol, actually quite interesting, with a hoppy bitterness that lingers for a long time in the mouth. Medium bodied, it has plenty of carbonation. Must be consumed at a proper temperature, much higher than straight from the fridge.
