Live@The Felix, Nuneaton, 06/12/13. Sulphured nose easing into conifer, sprout and aniseed blandness. Syrup body with generic Batemanís brown bitter aniseed and cooked dark sugar. An especially drain-like nose. Heady and drab.

Cask at the White Lady. Surprisingly pale red-brown pour, expected a darker beer. Some chocolate on the nose, otherwise just "malty". Taste is sweet, finish is sweet. I wouldnít go so far as to say "lyrically". I would say it was "watery" instead. OK.

For the sake of the social interaction just numeral ratings and/or some highlighted attributes. Quite dull strong ale from a decent brewery. Nothing worth of highlighting, but still good.

On cask at Porterhouse. Appearance: dark cloudy plum/raisin with a medium dirty white head. Aroma: Sour, rhubarb & cherry, a little lactose with grass and dark fruits and chocolate . Flavour: dark chocolate, a little of the tartness I got in the aroma present, cherry and chocolate, hint of chicory, coffee, good bitterness and tartness in the finish. Quite lovely.

Tried this at the Last Post, Paisley (JDW) in December 2007. Cask, handpump dispense. Dark ruby red in colour with a thick creamy buff head - has the appearance of Sarah Hughes Ruby Red Mild. Strong roast malt in the long intense aroma. Thick creamy mouthfeel and superb lacing throughout. Dark malts give a maltloaf base with strong mocha coffee, rich Belgian chocolate, sweet molasses and strong fruit notes of overipe plums. Hardly any note of hop resins in the aftertaste as malt returns in the smooth vinous finish with creamy vanilla and oak cask flavours. This is a superb Strong Ale and worth seeking out, highly recommended.

Cask, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal, Oadby. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aromas are very vinous with burnt toast and toffee with black currants and strawberry. Molasses with bready cookie dough. Flavours are fruity and sweet with dry and spicy red wine notes. Viscous with a warming palate. A proper winter brew.
