3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bottle, pours dark, large tan head, seems lively for a stout, nice chocolate and roast malt character, not much hop flavour comes through but the bitterness is there. Tastes good, but a bit stodgy and overcarbed. Not bad.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark almost black with a small quickly fading head. some light lacing. Aroma is of dark roasted malt, yeast and caramel malt, some mild notes of burnt toffee and caramel as it warms up. Taste similar to aroma with some mild espresso like bitterness from the roasted malt. A medium body with mild carbonation, smooth. Finishes with sweet roasted malt, caramel, moderately dry and some mild bitterness and light toffee caramel ending. Aroma and taste become more prevelant as it warms up. Overall a good, smooth and flavorful brew.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at The Wyndham Arms, Salisbury: 12th Oct 2013.
Dark and tasty: poured into a Hop Back badged pint sleeve it looked good. A full and deep tanned crown sat above the rich looking black body.
The nose soon filled with chocolate and malty molasses, my mouth filled with the same flavours very quickly afterwards.
Rich, smooth and very drinkable, mild peat notes, but not really burnt or smokey in nature, just well roasted malts doing their thing with enough bitterness to help the hops give the beer a healthy dry finish.
