Bottle. Lovely tasting stout very much let down by a thin, tepid texture. Had it twice now but probably won’t try it again.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Hirotoma (238) - Bologna, ITALY - MAY 18, 2012

500ml bottle. Pint glass. Enjoyed on dec´11. Pitch black with beige, large bubbled, froth. Close, quickly dissipated, crown. Yeast & toffee note aromas. Bitter upfront, slightly fizzy, followed by sweet malts & hints of coffee. Velvet palate. Light body, medium carbonation. Dry bitter finish & dark fruits on the aftertaste. A little more viscosity will be appreciated for a Stout.

Cask at The Hope, Carshalton. It pours very dark brown, with a decent beige head. The nose is cocoa powder, roasted malt, dark fruit, charcoal and smoke. The taste is charcoal, roasted malt, bitter chocolate, tar, touch of ash and some dark fruit, with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Well balanced. All-round a good cask stout.

500ml bottle bb24 06 12
Sampled 3 bottles. All had a musty, cardboard taste suggesting oxidisation in the brewing or bottling process. I’ll try this one again to see if it was a batch problem.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - JAN 20, 2012
Tasted this at the Troon Beer Festival in September 2004. Cask, gravity dispense. Dull black in colour with a thin tan coloured head. Strong roast malt note long in the nose. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a burnt toast flavour with dry roast coffee and strong bournville chocolate base. Very dry bitter hop resins compliment the dry malt well. Finish is again dry with toasted almonds coming through. An excellent session stout.
