JDW, Rochester. Sticky sweet Autumn Ale with pleasant chocolate and roasted peanut notes. Brewers have been playing around for some years with crystal malt to create a decent Autumn Ale - this is one of the better attempts, but is too sweet for me.

1) Tamworth 08. Murky headless ruby. Overwhelming aroma of sesame oil/ toasted seeds. Some mellowing chocolate and roast in the mouth, but aroma and flavour all about the sesame. Not unpleasant, but one dimensional and weird. 2) Out of The Vaults, Leicester. (2 days later-had already forgotten I’d had it). Clear ruby. Sesame oil aroma/flavour. Some chocolate and faint marzipan. Soap and mushy biscuit in there. Better than at the festival, but still one dimensional.

1. Cask Stillage at the Metropolitan Cathedral Crypt, Liverpool 24/02/2001 Amber coloured. Smooth on the palate and fruity flavoured. 2. Cask Handpump at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms, Liverpool 19/11/2004 Mid brown amber colour fruity and slightly sweet. Some dryness in a full malt finish.

2 average beers for this wetherspoons beer festival, i have to say this has been a disapointing festival, this year. Aroma is a maltyness balanced with soem yeasty hoppiness. Taste is similar though a little uninspiring.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Russet colour with thin beige head, some yeast and red berry aromas. Choc malt and yeast on finish. Bit acidic in mouth. Finish has touch of yeasty apple and some dryness and hint of red berry malt

duff (5483) - St, Margarets, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 20, 2004
Cask@The Roebuck, Richmond, london. Close in character to a mild, yet not totally disimiliar to an old ale. Slightly sweet malty nutty notes, with some subtle roast and woody acidity. Pleasant. Drank it while playing some bar billiards with kook.

Cask at the Swan in the Rushes, Loughborough. Dark brown colour, sweet and malty aroma. The taste is pretty mild; nutty and malty.

maeib (6637) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - NOV 8, 2004
Cask conditioned - handpump - Malt Shovel - Northampton. A dark brown coloured bitter with lots of malts in the aroma and a chewy malty Irish ale type taste. Very tasty and drinkable but the Hop Back beers do tend to be good.
