Terrific straw-coloured beer with a fresh, hoppy aroma and a well rounded, malty flavour with an intense bitterness which leads to an excellent long, dry finish. Winner of numerous, prestigious awards, most notably Best Strong Bitter at The Great British Beer Festival in 1992/93.
Ingredients: Optic pale malt. East Kent Goldings and Challenger hops (The bottled version uses EKG only).

On cask at the White Friar (Coventry)
Stopping back into this excellent pub after a day of sightseeing I went straight for this clip. It was not a bad choice at all as the reward was a well balanced cask selection that I could have drunk all day in the heat.

Aroma / Appearance - The semitransparent golden body and thin white head are hallmarks of a well kept beer. Lemons, orange peels, and melons give it a summery fruity feel. The sweetness in the base aroma ties it all together nicely.

Flavor / Palate - The creamy mouthfeel is soft on the tongue as it provides bursts of lemons and orange juice. The dry transition is a bit like drinking watery marmalade. Finally there is a nice bitter finish that hangs on the throat like cloudy mist. This is a solid release for the summer months.

Cask @ Robin Hood Sheffield - Pours a golden colour with a small white head. Has a fruity malty hoppy aroma with hints of citrus. Fruity malty hoppy caramel flavour with hints of citrus. Has a fruity malty caramel finish with some hoppy aftertaste.

Cask @ Clarendon, Leicester. Pale golden beer. Light citrusy aroma. Classic blonde/pale ale. You know, summer lightning a perennial- if you drink in the UK and like cask ale you've drunk it either on draught or bottle conditioned. I believe in it's day it was ground breaking. It's still nice, even if it has been outshone by its imitators. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Light colour, almost cidery. Good summer beer - straw, lemon and unripe pear in the aroma. Doesn’t taste 5%, at least at first. Very drinkable, with something more complex lurking under the lightness - liquorice perhaps, crossed with elderflower - the storm on the horizon on the summer’s day.

50cl Bottle @ local Tesco. Yellow golden blond coloured beer with some very light carbonation and a larger white head. Pilsener malty hinted aroma with some distant fruity light hoppy notes. Medium to full palate. FInish is bitter hoppy with a longer dry very bitter ending. Not quite balanced but ok.

Plutot agreable, mais un poil trop sucree. Des aromes de pain et de miel qui se melent au houblon floral. En bouche c’est moyen, les saveurs sucrees ressortent beaucoup trops et ce malgre une belle amertume.

Quite nice. Bitterness, and a sort of lemon curd background flavour, some floral hops. Enjoyable but not stunning.

UPDATED: SEP 22, 2013 Dobre i o dziwo bardzo mętne piwo z Anglii, co się żadko zdaża. Zapach prawie niewyczuwalny. Smak słodowo goryczkowy. Finisz wytrawny i rozgrzewający.

Vile old fusty dusty nose. Pilsneresque to look at and a graininess and dryness too which hint at something appealing but the odour and ’taste’ just consumes everything. No.

500 ml bottle poured into a Pint glass Appearance,... light yellow a little bit hazy, big head colour white very persistent Aroma. ... malty smell, wet grass too Taste.... little touch of citrus with a dry middle bitter end Mouthfeel... medium body with medium carbonation (a little high for an standard English ale in my opinion) Overall...... very refreshing, easy to drink but not so hoppy as you expect for an English bitter ale
