Terrific straw-coloured beer with a fresh, hoppy aroma and a well rounded, malty flavour with an intense bitterness which leads to an excellent long, dry finish. Winner of numerous, prestigious awards, most notably Best Strong Bitter at The Great British Beer Festival in 1992/93.
Ingredients: Optic pale malt. East Kent Goldings and Challenger hops (The bottled version uses EKG only).

Appearance- golden, hazy, big foamy white head which takes a while to settle. It nearly escapes the bottle. Aroma- quite a bit of malt, yeast, slight fruity notes, bit of zest, bread. Taste- lots of maltiness, hop undercurrent, a bit of zest, some orange and lemons. Quite a full mouthfeel, bitter finish. Nice.

Cask @ Angleterre. Golden hazy, white head. Leathery, fruity, citrusy, slightly yeasty aroma. Flavor has citrus, wheat, sweet fruits. Very dry, bitter finish. Some yeasty, baking soda like in the flavor as well.

Cask @ Glue Pot, Swindon. Pale yellow, just a bit of head. Light floral aroma with some astringency. Taste is a honeyed sweetness with a big bitter hit following on quickly. Mouth-puckering aftertaste. Fuller mouthfeel than one would expect. Good but maybe slightly overrated in the grand scheme of things.

A bottle of, "That There". Only one man in the world will know what I mean. Smells odd. Smells of caster sugar and a bit of bleach? Pale gold colour. Tastes reedy, kinda farmyard-like with strong hints of candyfloss. Really weird. The cask versions of this I had in the 1990ís were ace but this is just like fizzy farmyard candyfloss. Itís so unlike what I recall Iím going to throw it away. Sorry.
