Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
Terrific straw-coloured beer with a fresh, hoppy aroma and a well rounded, malty flavour with an intense bitterness which leads to an excellent long, dry finish. Winner of numerous, prestigious awards, most notably Best Strong Bitter at The Great British Beer Festival in 1992/93.
Ingredients: Optic pale malt. East Kent Goldings and Challenger hops (The bottled version uses EKG only).

Pours a golden straw colour with a medium collar of foam that settles quickly. Aromas are expected for the style but impressive nonetheless. Grassy/hay notes dominate the nose with some citrus rind present. Palate is rather complex. Presents an abundance of resinous hops that provide a rather astringent backbone while some biscuity malt presence adds balance, still very much playing a supporting role.

500ml brown bottle from The Lighthouse in Manchester. Pours a slightly hazy yellow body with a good half-inch of persistent off-white head. Smells like caramel malt with spicy, grassy, and citrussy hops. Tastes like bready malt with some caramel character, and just enough grassy, spicy, citrussy hops to provide balance. Light bodied with light natural carbonation. Flavors, while subtle, are balanced and pleasing, and this is a very drinkable beer for sure. A lighter example of one of my favorite styles.

Appearance: golden color. Medium head, white, compact and lasting. Aroma: dominated for the hops with citric and grassy notes. Lemon skin and light mentholated reminiscences. Flavor: ephemeral malty start, intensive progress of hops slightly resinous and some astringent. The hoppiness injects hints of grass, green apples, rue, cedar and citric fruits. Medium and persistency dryness. Malty aftertaste. Palate: light to medium body, semi-viscous texture and medium carbonation. Remark: nice and some semi-complex dry-hoppy, mediocre in others aspects.
