When your brewmaster comes up with a recipe as good as this one, you let him name the beer whatever he wants. Here’s what makes our recipe so darn good: a rich burnt orange colour, darker than most lagers, a smooth, medium body with a bold, but pleasant, hop taste, full of flavour, unlike your traditional ’cold-as-ice’ beers with no taste, made with only the best ingredients, including Canadian & English Malts, and German & Czech Hops.

balanced between malt sweetness and hop bitterness. Nice caramel roasted flavor. A good head with lots of lacing on the glass, slight tart, hop aftertaste. I am an occasional craft beer drinker and this brand has the flavor profile I like. As well, the ingredients and taste profile are clearly communicated on the bottle. Lastly, I love the name “Barking Squirrel” and I will buy this brand again!

Tap. Pours clear amber with a medium, creamy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is caramel and cookie malt with light spicy hops and a clean lager character. Flavor is malt dominant with light hops and bitterness and a sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation

Citrus, grass and hops on the nose. Clear pale brown color with good white lacing, not much head. Dark malt taste, you can really taste the Munich malt. A very good lager

Slick logo and overall design of the Tall Boy can of Barking Squirrel Lager. Floral hops, golden light bodied with strong foam. Calling this beer a Vienna makes perfect sense. Crisp beer overall, I bet it would work well as a tailgate beer.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours translucent copper toward dark straw at the bottom of the glass. The head is 2-finger and clingy, and laces well. Nose is grainy corn flakey malt, mild hops and earthy notes. Tastes vienna malty, with a finishing hop bite and smooth crispness.

From can: pours a dark amber - almoost orange with medium white head. I’m not getting much for aroma - maybe some light floral hops. tastes of woodsy hops, but rather subdued with a good blend of malt. decent hop finish with definite hop aftertaste. Overall, nothing amazing about this beer. However, considering the light body, smooth finish and no sacrifice of taste, this is an excellent session beer.

Pint ordered from a Jack Astors restaurant in Calgary, AB on 10/13/2012. Colour: medium-dark brown with no head. Nose: a blast of something perfumey, raw wet grains, red licorice. Taste: medium-light sweet, light bitter, medium-light sour. Onslaught of light toffee, which turns into a high percentage dark chocolate, mid palate shows medium toasted grain. Finish is rather empty and void and dry.

Pours a clear caramel color with a thick lt tan head...nice retention and lacing. Aroma has light caramel with hints of grain and grass. Flavor follows suit...adds a bit of a nutty/earthy note. Mouthfeel is medium/full...a bit creamy with an earthy/grassy/lightly roasted finish.

Bottle. Clear brass colored pour with a small white head. Aroma is cardboard and earthy malts. More earthy malts and grassy hops in the flavor. Touch of caramel sweetness.
