When your brewmaster comes up with a recipe as good as this one, you let him name the beer whatever he wants. Here’s what makes our recipe so darn good: a rich burnt orange colour, darker than most lagers, a smooth, medium body with a bold, but pleasant, hop taste, full of flavour, unlike your traditional ’cold-as-ice’ beers with no taste, made with only the best ingredients, including Canadian & English Malts, and German & Czech Hops.

Bottle. Clear golden amber with an off white head. Sweet toffee malts, faint hoppy bitterness, and a clean malty finish. Drinkable, but not something worth re-visiting.

355ml bottle. Clear, reddish amber colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Malty aroma, hints of red berries, a some malt-spiciness, a nuttily touch. Taste is minimally sweet malty with a nuttily touch, hints of red berries, a dry touch of fruit parings, hoppy overtones. Balanced, aromatic, nice.

This is a good lager, with flavors/aromas of yeast and fresh grains. The name got my attention - barking this or barking that can be a funny name for something or other. It reminded me of Frank Zappa’s record label, Barking Pumpkin, and of the goofy names you see some vintners give their wines.

Pours a deep burnt orange with a medium fluffy tan head that quickly dissipated to a trace film. Aroma is floral, caramel and toast. Taste is sweet with mild hop bitters. Medium bodied, slick with a little stickiness. Nice Vienna as it is crisp and clean while remaining flavorful.

Erzengel (1931) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - JAN 26, 2014
Glass-bottle. Malty nose with hints of grain. Brown in the glass. The beer starts malty, slightly sweet. Smooth and highly drinkable. Quite fresh. Slightly sourish in the mainpart, the beer continues smooth and malty. The aftertaste is medium, nearly no hops, malty-sweetish and smooth.
--> Nice session beer. Not too deep but nice malty and not too flat in aroma. --> 12/13/11/10
