kujo9 (1044), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Apr 11, 2007 On Tap @ Cleveland Chophouse 2/22/07: Orange amber w/a thin, but lasting white head. Mild clove spice yeast aroma w/ hints of banana esters. Lightly floral and also has a touch of minerally character in the nose when chilled, but disappears as it warms. Malt profile seems like a pilsner malt. The spicy yeast is the strongest flavor to start (cloves w/ a touch of pepper) followed by sweetness up front & light banana notes. Sugary taste also. Finish is semi dry & pretty well attenuated and balanced. Again, malt seems light and pilsner like, but has a touch of breadiness. Aftertaste is a clove yeast and a hint of hop bitterness. Medium bodied & carbonation level, well hiddne alcohol. Not a bad beer! I’d like to see a bit more malt in the overall profile of this one, but it has some nice subtle complexities as it warms and keeps it interesting. Overall I like this beer.. Is it a great Belgian, no, but it does have it’s nuances that keeps it from being completely boring.
