The flavors clash on this one too much. It’s too malty for my taste. I guess with a name like Hop Hound I just wasn’t expecting it to taste anything like this. I got a 6-pack on sale for $4.67. It says it’s a Spring Seasonal, so I guess they were trying to get rid of them. I don’t taste any more hops than a typical can of PBR, so I don’t know why they called it Hop Hound other than it just being a clever name. Head is very thin and disappears right away. Carbonation is okay though. This one reminds me a lot of Amberbock, which I’m not really a fan of, except this is sweeter and maltier. Pours cloudy amber.

From a very old set of notes. All my notes say is "Smells worse than it tastes. Tastes like some hops ate a banana puked themselves up then ate themselves again." That must have been from the end of the night...

355 mL bottle. Amber, with a thick ring of head. Some wheat in the aroma, and some mild citrus hops. Not much going on in the flavour, though. Sweet. Thin body.

Had a beer festival, thank goodness. If something is called Hop hound, it should have some hops right?

(bottle 6/26/10). Cloudy copper color. Medium off white head. Moderate wheat aroma. Light wheat flavor with light sweet malt. Avg duration. Light lasting wheat finish. Slick texture. Moderate carbonation. Spare lacing.

Insults both pale ales and wheat beers. But it looks drinkable, at least, a nice orange-amber with an honest-to-god head for a few moments. Then you taste it, and you feel a cold, bony hand wrap itself around your heart, and your tongue retreats down your throat in horror, not stopping until it finds the safety of your small intestine. Tastes like banana chunks floating in a pool of spoiled club soda. And whatever hops the Hound is flaunting are nowhere to be found. (3/10/09)

Reviewed from notes. Pours a moderate golden color with a thin white head and not much lacing. Smell actually brings forward a small amount of hops alongside some doughy notes. Taste brings moderate bitterness and some bread flavors. Mouthfeel is light to moderate in body. Drinks okay and is fairly decent. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-08-2010

Rather strange for a wheat ale to have caramel creeping into the flavor, but unique and a decent ale.

Pours a rusty amber with a smallish white head. Nose is mostly hops with a sniff of carmel malt. Nice viscosity. Taste is more malt than hops with a pleasing light dry soft note on the finish. A good beer, especially for a major brewer. Pairs well with Rondele soft cheese on Ritz crackers.

At Hog’s Head on Fullerton. Not as bad as I expected. Flavors were muddled. It just didn’t seem like there was much effort put in other than to make it as marketable as possible. Serving: Tap
