Bottle from York Beer & Wine. An inky black beer that pours with no head. It has a strong milk chocolate and liquorice flavour, tart red fruit followed by coffee and vanilla on the finish.

Bottle from Suddaby’s, Malton. Pours black with a quickly fading tan. Plenty of flavour in this one with chocolate notes dominating. There’s a little coffee in there too. Nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a bubbly light tan head. The aroma is light malt with a little coffee and cocoa. The flavour is medium bitter with a rich roasted malt, chocolate coffee hop spice bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Really liked this. Lots of flavour. Lots going on!

1st March 2014
Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is crispy and dry. Lots of dark chocolate here with a little chocolate powder on top. Touch of tangy dark fruits. There isn’t a lot of dark malt! Chocolate aftertaste. Tasty and err quite chocolatey porter.

Cask-conditioned at the Beer Emporium, Bristol 14/2/2014. Black in colour with a decent, off-white head. Dominated by plain chocolate upfront, with a touch of sweetness, before some toasted malts and a dryish finish. I found the chocolate was a bit overpowering.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Overall malty aroma. Vague hints of smoke and caramel in the nose.
Great appearance: dark brown, no light passes through. Minimal head from hard pour. No taste comes through too strong. Inoffensive on the palate! Overall, a very drinkable porter (I had a cheese toastie half way through this beer and they complimented each other very nicely).
