Very strong, great taste and flavor. This one will sneak up on you if you drink it too fast. Perfect for the holidays. I don’t think there is a better Winter Seasonal beer out there.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Deep amber coloured body with hints of light brown and a thin, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of bitter malt, nuts, earth, toffee and the slightest hint of spices. Medium-bodied; Assertive malts throughout with some cereal and earth noticeable, a bit of caramelised sugars and again, a tiny bit of spice noticeable showing some cinnamon and nutmeg. Aftertaste shows more of the malt and nuts than anything else - some light sweetness and that’s about it. Overall, a pretty standard offering with the maltiness and toffee coming through the most, but the earth and bitterness showing the harshest flavours. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon on 11-November-2013 for US$3.49, sampled at home in Washington on 23-December-2013.

Bottle... Poured deep reddish with a moderate head. Lots of malt of sweetness, toasted grains, sweet bread with a hint of char and caramel malts. Some hoppiness and resinous floral tones, but overall this is mostly a malt bomb.

22oz bottle from "Roths Sunnyslope Market" in S. Salem
Darker amber/red ale with a good sized, long lasting light tan head.
Aromas of toffee/caramel malts and spruce/piney hops, also getting faint licorice nice really.
Taste is way malty at first deep toffee and treacle notes, touch of licorice then satisfying deep hoppiness..finishes semi dry..and long long pleasing finish.
Lovely thick yet moving fast mouth feel.
A really nice satisfying winter ale..loved it

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at Bailey’s Taproom, pours a hazy dark copper / amber with a small beige head. Aroma is very light, barely anything there, with just some mild spices – not much else. Flavour is sort of cidery, with apple spices, some winter / Xmas spices, but not much else. Extremely light-bodied, with a very light apple / spicy tone. Not bad, quite uninteresting.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at the brewpub. Dark copper colored pour with small tan head. Aromas of grain, chocolate, a decided nuttiness with some citrus and earthen hops. Taste is more citrus and earthen hop, a ton of nuttiness and light chocolate and grain. Solid beer, one of my favorites at HV.
