A pretty good porter. Dark aroma of chocolate, vanilla, oak chips and hop. Flavor is similar, bursting with vanilla. Oaky backbone. Minor chocolate notes. Bitter from the hop. Complex porter. I don’t usually like vanilla ones but this is nice!

Bomber from Hayduke that we had over facebook chat. Poured at just under 50 F and allowed to slowly warm. This is quite dark with some amber. a tan head leaves a steady layer on the glass. I smell roasted notes first with lesser vanilla and earth. The feel is smooth. I taste more vanilla that is smelled and the roast is less than the aroma. With warming I get more vanilla and citrus emerges. This is a nice three legged stand of pleasantness. The finish is full of the citrus. Interesting how this went from roasty to vanilla forward, to hop first. I approve.

I just didn’t get it. Vanilla was very subtle, it was overly carbonated. It did have some coffee like astringency that some porters have... Just not that good.

Bottle shared with Erwin Van Moll and Stefan @ Van Moll Brewpub. Red brown color, red glare coming through, medium sized off-white to beige head that leaves fair to good lacing. Aroma has strong vanilla, slightly roast and some malts. Taste lightly malts, vanilla, fortunately not that much that it becomes (Dutch) "hopjesvla" flavored. Body is average to medium, carbonation suits the beer. Quite well balanced.
