aroma is indistinct herbal push to fresh mown grass, still nothing ever presents as actual hops, odd sweetness to close. appearance is nearing copper, hazy with sticky legs, filmy head. flavor is distinct sage, dominates over light caramel, near wintergreen. pine needles again seem to be the main herb presenting as pseudo hops.

From March of 2011, reviewed from notes and at the brewpub. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice looking hazy amber to orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. There was some light lacing sticking around the sides of the glass. The smell had a decent sweet honey to it and some light piney hops. The taste was mainly the same with a light grassiness that was probably the sage. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. The carbonation was good for the style as it had a good sharpness but wasn’t anything overly done. Overall, I say this was a pretty good APA well worthy of having again.

tap at the brewpub last summer - Pours light amber-orange with a lingering head. The aroma has plenty of hops with some citrus notes. The flavor is of moderately strong hops with citrus and herbal character. It’s medium bodied and quite tasty.

Tap at HopCat during the RBSG welcome party. Pale golden pour. The nose is really fresh and herbal. Bright fresh sage arom a over some pale toasted malt. A little bit of soft fruity character. An almost rosemary-like herbaceousness. The beer is lightly sweet and as it warms up a kiss of fruitiness comes out. Pretty decent, unique stuff.

On tap at the Hopcat. Amber with a thin off-white head and moderate lacing. Aroma of heavy sage and malt with a minimal hop presence. Taste is like chomping on a sage leaf with heavy sage, a bit o’ honey, malt and mild hops. Okay.

Tap @ HopCat for RBSG’10 - Dark orange almost brown pour.. Arouma is herbal, sage and piney hops. Smooth caramel malts and velvety smooth, toffee and peaches. Nice tingly carbonation in the palate. finishes a bit vineous and with a slight hint of alcohol. tasty.

On tap at Hopcat, pours a light amber color with little head and lacing, has a sweet aroma that has some hops in the finish, taste hs very sweet which is to be expected with the honey but still has a nice hop kick to it, overall not bad.

Draft… RBSG 2010… Clear amber ale with a small, fizzy, white head. Plenty of sage, toffee and honey in the nose. Medium to full-bodied with a buttery mouthfeel and tickling carbonation. Lots of sage in the flavor, but it’s not overbearing. Finishes, malty, spicy and fairly clean.

On tap at Hopcat. Poured lighter amber with a creamy cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up sweeter sage all over with a pale and biscuity base.. very interesting. The flavor found sage on all facets as well, supported by a bed of biscuits and caramel.. slightly sour sage and oak-like notes on the back-end and finish.. really dried out as it progressed.. aftertaste of dried sage. Medium-bodied with moderate-plus carbonation on the palate.. flowed well.. nice use of the herb!

On tap at HopCat while in town for RBSG. Pours a hazed amber with a thin white head. Soft sage and lavender. Medium bodied, more sage. Rather herbal, the sage really comes through on this. Nice and crisp. The sage may be a bit heavy, but it’s quite nice.
