UPDATED: MAR 7, 2012 Re-rate - Bottled, from Asda Scunthorpe. Chestnut red, thin but lasting off white head andlow condition. Sweet grainy maltiness, brown sugar, some peppery spiciness and a low burnt fruit in the nose, quite soft in the mouth with an upfront earthy chalkiness giving way to a liquorice sweetness that with time becomes bitter once again, lingering licorice bitterness in the finish with an underlying earthiness. Initial Rating Date: 9/8/2003 - Bottle conditioned. Chestnut red, thin but lasting off white head and moderate condition. Raisin, tobacco, malt and hops in the nose. Quite unbalanced in the mouth with syrupy licorice and mouthfilling nuttiness that becomes coconutty towards the end. Some hops apparent in finish but nuts still dominate. (6-3-6-3-11 2.9)

A hazy deep red beer with a thin rim of off-white head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of berries and lighter ones of metal. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of berries, leading to a dry slightly woody end.

Clear deep amber - red beer. Residual white head. Smooth semi dry palate. Creamy malt with a little banana. Very mild, almost insipid, orange hops. Semi dry finish. Tastes like a standard English bitter turned up to 11.

I do like a Hopdaemon, but found this a bit muddy. Sweet and malty, but a bit too grainy for me.

Bottle conditioned. Dark mahogany brown colour. Quite high carbonation. Hang on I’m going to go and decant it. Ah, that’s much better. Smells of sour cherries. I wouldn’t believe this was 6%. It tastes so smooth with no alcoholic burn at all. There’s plenty of malt in there with a burnt\toasted malt on the finish. In the front of the mouth there’s nothing much going on. There’s some sweetness but not much; there’s some red fruit but only a hint. There’s also not much hop going on either. It tastes like a toasted best bitter. I’ve had this on cask a number of times over the years and it was much, much better. I’m disappointed with this bottle.
