An aromatic copper-coloured pale ale brewed with Kentish Fuggles and Goldings hops for a refreshing taste and a fruity finish.

pours a light orange colour, which had a thinnish white head. I found the nose rather subtle, definitely citrusy but not overpoweringly so, which I liked. Drinking wise, this I enjoyed muchly - it is quite bitter and that light citrusness kind of catches the back of your throat but then gives way to a soft sweetness. The finish was very dry and coupled with a gentle carbonation makes this nice, refreshing beer.

Bottle, served a bit too cold. Pine, citrus and malt in the aroma. Taste is soft, malty base with caramel and biscuit along with bitter and citrusy hoppiness. Soft carbo, oily texture. High drinkability.

Bottle brought home from England. Pours out in a clear golden-amber colour with low head and medium body. Aroma of fresh hops and spices. Taste of fresh hops, light barley, oak, light malt, pine, flowers, grapefruit and straw. Aromatic and tasty beer - enjoyed it.

Sampled cask conditioned. Pale amber. Hay and apple aroma. Light mouthfeel, but has that chewy, malty mouthfeel some cask ales has when they are really ’on’. Not a lot of hops, but nice salty finish. Quenchable and likeable, but if it wasn’t for the name I never would’ve guessed it was an IPA.

UPDATED: APR 23, 2010 May, 2002 Bottle Conditioned. Kent’s newest brewery opened in Canterbury at the start of 2001 (just as the microbrewery Kent Garden in Faversham closed down). The owner, Tony Prins, is an experienced brewer having worked for, among others, the Swale Brewery - also in Kent. He makes two bottle conditioned ales at present - Leviathan, and this Skrimshander which in the cask won best beer at the recent Kent Beer Festival. It is a copper coloured ale with an attractive frothy lace which remains for most of the drink. The hops are clean and mildly spicy with a touch of wood. Fuggles and Goldings are used. The body has a mild barley sugar sweetness which finishes with an Opal Fruits type of fruitiness. A decent pale ale, though perhaps lacking character. [3.0]
Nov 2002 Cask, Tudor Rose, Upnor. In perfect condition - the cask had just come on today. Deeply delicious. Creamy citric flavours dancing into oblivion. [3.9]
July 2003 Cask, Man of Kent, with Duff & Nuffield. Delightful. Floral hops and a quality sweet malt. [3.6]
May, 2008 The Plough, Stalisfield Green. A fresh and decent enough standard bitter - quite toffeeish with a pleasant hoppy finish. A stronger version of Golden Braid. [2.7]

Cask Conditioned at Banbury Beer Festival. Pale orange brown, little head. A heavily hopped floral IPA, lots of citrus tang and good bitterness. There is also a freshly cut hay note making this a well set IPA.

Medium, offwhite head with large bubbles. Big aroma of pine and old lemons, with overtones of spice and cedar. Bitter, sourish, watery taste of lemon. Disappointing taste, but not at all bad.
