Comes out almost flat, aroma has syrupy hop, but also diacetyl. Same palate, sticky sweet but dull hops and there’s diacetyl in there as well.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Amber with a huge off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit, peach, pine needles, lychees in syrup. Some overt alcohol. Overcarbonated. Sweet with caramel and peach before very strong bitterness. Pine, pineapple, grass and citrus linger. Alcohol sticks out a fair bit. Hops work well in the aroma and break though the sweetness but mainly as a roar - but I guess they’re my usual complaints about this sort of thing.

3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours murky copper with a massive head.
Nose shows some piny and resinous hops with a fair whack of sweet malt underneath.
Hoppy flavours, more resinous pine. Also a fair bit of sweet clean malt followed by a bold bitterness and a fair bit of sharp booze.
Carbonation is way too high.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
amber with a huge gushing head - carb issues here. after leaving it to settle the head disappears completely. aroma is a disappointment for a dipa - i was expecting 3D grapefruit and lychees but got something murky, indistinct and handy andy like, with more than a hint of fusels and acetaldehyde. i dont doubt the hops are there, its just not clean enough to let them out. flavour is heavily alcoholic, with some evidence of munich or melanoidin malt or something, plus some of the usual toffee stuff, and this medicinal mingling of fusels and high alpha bitterness. yes it’s lunatic excess but its not very well executed lunatic excess.

bomber in to a snifter
Clear ruby amber color. Very little, if any carbonation. Slight ring of lacing. Already have doubts.
Nose is sweet malt, little to no hops at all. More like candied apple really. Sad, just sad.
More like a barleywine in the taste. Sweet malts with some pine and grapefruit. No carbonation at all. Sweet and slick taste.
Fail on every level on a DIPA

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a 650ml (?) bottle on 25/3/2013. Pours a cloudy light orange with a huge head. Has a relatively strong aroma of yeast, honey and pink grapefruit. Taste wise, it starts out sweet with citrus and stone fruit, loads of honey, a touch of caramel, and a dash of alcohol. The bitterness is firm and lingering, but it’s hidden for something listed as 150 IBUs. All up, this is enjoyable enough but a little lacking in character for a DIPA (and HopDog is usually big on character). On the plus side, happy to find a HopDog brew where the carbonation is actually under control.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours golden orange with resilient bold tight off white head. Hop aromas of citrus tropical fruit, light pine and cat pee. Malt balances on the nose with a light caramel and grainy malt character. Medium body, medium carbonation. Bitterness is there and intense though the malt body balances well. Lingering bitterness - a hop head's delight

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Mogo Vintage Cellars. Deep hazy orange/copper colour, lasting frothy head, aroma is solid citrus/pine hops, mouh-puckering bitterness, but not out of balance due to solid malt backing it up. Oily texture with resiny aftertaste. Loved this, one of Tim’s best.
