Hops. Flames. Flames. Hops. Did you get all of that? Good. Horns Up Rye IPA is a no holds barred India Pale Ale, chockers full of the best hops New Zealand and the US have to offer, all riding on a solid malt backbone with a hefty serve of malted rye to deliver to your taste buds the Lupulin kick you’ve been craving. Big pungent hops on the nose followed by hop flavour and bitterness cascading over the tongue with malt sweetness and biscuitiness from the rye. This IPA finishes strong and dry with a lingering bitterness that just goes on, and on, and on like a screaming heavy metal guitar solo, and an after taste that reminds you that you’ve just had an awesome hoppy experience, like the ringing in your ears after a decibel shattering concert. Horns Up!

Bottle pours hop hazy yellow gold with light off white head and lace. Aromas of cat pee, citrus, pine and grass. Body medium light. Loving the Battery acid lupin hit of citrus and pine. Finish is tropical fruit. Hoppy!

330ml bottle (bottled 12/14) into pint glass. Massive dense pillowy white head crowns a clear light golden liquid. There are heaps of hoppy aromas with grapefruit, oranges and pine needles to the fore with perhaps kiwi fruit and white peppers in there as well. Palate is substantially bitter and hoppy but balanced by a robust malt bill (reinforced by the use of rye) so that it comes together very well. There is a touch of Belgian-style yeasty spiciness as well. The bitterness lingers long after the swallow. This is on a par with Feral's Hop Hog for Australia's finest APA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Plonk (December 2014). Dark orange-amber, frothy off-white head, rich caramel and citrus aromas, some peppery/spiciness, solid resiney/piney hops, medium-full body, quite thick texture, long resiney bitter finish. Great.

Extremely large head just like the black sunshine, very piney aroma. Nice bitterness, good malt balance. Not as balanced as it could be hops wise, nice none the less.

Bottle. Light, cloudy gold with big, frothy white head with heavy lacing. Huge hop aromas of passionfruit and lemon blossom as well as a touch of biscuit toward the end. Big bitterness up front with resinous mouth feel. A solid malt backbone provides a gentle sweetness throughout. Flavours of grapefruit and pine dominate, although there is just a touch of biscuit and malt in the mid palate. Great beer

Bottle into a tulip.

Pours a lovely clear light golden with a finger of creamy white head.

Nose is very tropical with some citrus. Lots of pineapple, grapefruit, mango. There’s also just a hint of that rye spiciness.

Taste is a light malt sweetness on the attack, some pineapple and citrus on the mid palate, with a really distinct pine and grapefruit on the finish along with just a hint of spiciness from the rye. There’s also that biscuit note that I love in an IPA. Bitterness is not out of control, and body is pretty light with good carbonation.

As it warms there’s a little bit of a vinous note which is pretty interesting.

A pretty good effort.

330ml bottle. Browny orange amber colour, foam off-white head and aroma of passionfruit, pineapple, hop resin. Taste is malt & rye with an earthy spicey hop resin bitterness. Slightly oily mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, lingering dry bitter finish. Quite drinkable IPA.

Not a lot of rye, more of a aggressive, heavily hopped IPA. Cloudy straw yellow color. Good bright white head and nice lacing. Nose is lots of tropical fruits, pine and grapefruit. Not a lot of malt, some slight sweetness and that is ok. taste is sweet tropical fruits, pine, grapefruit and then touches of pepper and spice from the rye. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Full of resin and oil. Dry fruity finish. A bit disjointed but a hop bomb
