COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This ecectic brown ale is the second in the Dark Odyssey Series, and is best described as a Belgian styled brown ale brewed with figs. Yet another box ticker! Brewed with a blend of 5 different malts, Australian and New Zealand hops, and our house Belgian yeast strain. Juicy figs were added late in the boil to accentuate the malt character and fruitiness from the Belgian ferment, and added spicy notes. Perfect for drinking during the cooler months, and great with a ploughman’s. Even better with a bit of age. Pop the green cap and enjoy!

330ml bottle. Pours an opaque deep chestnut, with a large beige head, which last quite well, although does not leave much lacing. The aroma is dominated by slightly off-smelling fig, with some very mild floral notes coming through. The floral and mild citrus hops up front and touch of rye bread malt that follows are not bad, but the fig comes in at the mid-palate, at which point the enjoyment stops. It is musty, tastes a little off and really jars with the rest of the beer. It is a dominating flavour right through the finish, and ruins what would otherwise have been a nice enough brown ale. This is quite a bad beer, and has put figs right down with rhubarb jam on my list of ingredients that should never be put in beer.

330 ML bottle Hazy dark brown color. One finger head that falls to a thick collar. Pretty straight forward. Nose is candied sugar, brown sugar, roasted malts, coffee, and figs. The is a touch of plastic in the nose but does not hurt it. Good warming aroma. Tate is really carbonated. Very fizzy and alive. Hides the other aspects of the beer. Coffee, figs, brown sugar, roasted malts but very soft due to the carbonation. Feel is very carbonated but softens up leaving a nice brown sugar, fig and coffee feel. Highly carbonated and lighter medium feel. Too much carbonation but nice

330ml bottle. Light brown foam explodes in the glass when poured and takes a long while to settle. Brown in colour with some coffee like aromas. Strong flavour with a mild bitter aftertaste, a bit like cold coffee.

From a 330ml bottle on 10/9/2012. Pours a very dark brown big a big head which dissipates quickly. Has a distinct, slightly strange yeasty basement like aroma. Flavour wise, it’s sweet and fruity with dates and figs prominent. But it’s otherwise fairly one dimensional and less interesting than most other HopDog brews I’ve tried so far. A little over-carbonated, which seems to be the HopDog way. All up, a bit disappointing, as I’ve been quite impressed by their work to date.

Bottle at Josie Bones. Nice dessert beer. Aromas of dark fruit and chocolate, with hints of smoke. Taste is sweet and spicy, with bitter notes and long length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Dark, cloudy, with a thin head.

Pours black with ruby highlights and a massive, growing head. Aroma include spicy phenols, faint dried figs, spciy hops, soft light fruity esters and gentle roasted malt. Roasted malt and soft figs are the main flavours, although there’s also some soft, spicy hops. Ridiculously over-carbonated.

Bottle, 11C. Clear dark brown with an inch of beige head. Aroma of toffee, brown sugar, figs, dough, spices. 7- 8 Quite full bodied. Taste is fairly sweet with figs and ripe plums, dough, chocolate. All cleaned up at the end which is drying and subtly spiced and bitter. Currently under "Brown Ale" which doesn’t seem right. Very nice beer.

pours a deep brown amber with a thin tan head.the sweet dark fruit in the aroma is magnified in the flavour along with a subtle roasted flavour that lingers pleasantly.
